Perri | -43 comments There are definitely Shakespeare works that have a "translation"if you will on the side. Very helpful especially in the subtle meanings of the day, as Tom says. I'm glad that schools seem to be moving away from assigned reading. A lot of the good books I was assigned, I didn't like just because they took away my choice. I still find my heels digging in with books chosen by my book clubs, but finding new discoveries outweighs that :)

Gopal (gopaliyer) | 482 comments Horror, Vampire, Werewolves, Erotica are some genres that I absolutely don't read. I will read Romance if it has some suspense or mystery associated.

Shivam (shivam21) | 48 comments I don't like romance/sex.
Love or lust both.

Michael (fisher_of_men) | 104 comments I don't read Romance or Erotica. I avoid novelizations of TV series or movies. I don't read much poetry, though I'm not averse to it. I'm open to just about any other fiction or nonfiction genre.

Gopal..horror fiction can be quite diverse..it can be psychological or gory.. Which part do you not like?
Well its your choice but I got to suggest this book It by Stephen King..I know you hate it.. But its something very nostalgic fiction blended with elements of horror.. A 1100+ pages. An epic.
Just saying..
Your choice.

message 206: by H.N. (new)

H.N. Wake | 103 comments I don't read Erotica. Not because I dislike it, but because there are so many other books I'd read before it.

I do like cabbage and sprouts. :)

I agree about tv novelizations. As to things like romance and erotica, I go by the idea that sometimes you need some junk food for the brain. I generally don't read erotica unless the plot is interesting.

erotica, plot. Oxymoron?

message 209: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Not necessarily, Ty. So many people just refuse to accept genre fiction is not REAL fiction/literature. I try not to do that.

I've read a couple of erotic novels that had good plots, otherwise I wouldn't have read them. Not an oxymoron in my opinion. Rubbish books can be and are found in ALL genres, that's for sure!

Janet or Kirsten-do you have any recs? I'm open to any good book

message 213: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) For what, romance?

I would try the In Death series by J.D. Robb. It's romantic suspense, police procedural, mystery, and set in the future. The first book is Naked in Death. I also like Jayne Ann Krentz/Amanda Quick and Julie Garwood

I write genre fiction! I am certainly not criticising it. I haven't read good erotica or bad erotica for that matter.

message 216: by Dave (new)

Dave Edlund (dedlund) | 44 comments Don't care much for romance, erotica, or horror. Mystery, historical fiction, sci-fi, fantasy--good, if the plot moves and with engaging characters.

message 217: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (mgauffant) Science fiction and mostly fantasy-though I have read it; it's just not something that is interesting to me right now.
I'd also say horror..I haven't read any of that in years.

message 218: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Mccall I love my fantasy sci fi and horror collections I love my supernatural books I even love my non-fiction thriller crime and adventure books - to be honest i don't think there are any genres i wont read if something takes my fancy. its more the book itself rather than the specific genre

Some TV novelizations can be poor but I've actually read some very good ones. Romancing the stone was not perfect but fun, Scarface was actually very good and changed a lot. Was lucky to read Dallas and it did a deeper spin on a few scenes. Omen 2 was also great. Alien very good too, have Aliens to read.

Dana ****Reads Alot**** | 78 comments erotic...vampires...romance . blah!!!!!!

message 221: by Katy (new)

Katy (kittykat21) I would say the straight science fiction genre especially with robots or warrior aliens; or books that include a lot of boring political elements. I am actually trying to force myself to read more of a range of science fiction instead of just the science fiction dystopian type books. I am more of a fantasy gal.

If they are immortal, doesn't that mean they are today and tomorrow as well? I'm just asking as I don't really have a stake in this fight.

After True Blood, the tv series, which was pretty good and Vampire Diaries, which is pretty bad, I'm kind of done. Though I did read a good book recently but can't name it - it's giving the game away!

message 238: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Mccall I never watched true blood but I read the books and I never watched vampire diaries but I read a couple of the books and have to say I don't think I am surprised if folk gave up after the vampire diaries - pile of mince lol

The Originals isn't bad. My eldest watches that. It has Klaus - that's a good thing!

If you are talking about Sasquatch porn, you're welcome to it. We'll let you tell us if it's any good.
Cum For Bigfoot (Cum For Bigfoot #1) by Virginia Wade

Tom Mathews | 671 comments Sharon wrote: "sasquatch porn?? that's a bigfoot step in the wrong direction! not heard of that lol"

Apparently cryptozoological erotica is an up-and-coming sub-genre. Maybe the writers in the group will want to capitalize on it. Check out this article.

Why Bigfoot porn author Virginia Wade quit the monster-smut game

message 245: by J M (new)

J M Shorney (jmshorney) | 27 comments Chic-Lit and Romantic Comedies are certainly not my thing. Or slushy romances of any kind. But the cryptozoological erotica. Sounds interesting.
Give it a go. Anything but Rom Com...Anything...

message 246: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Mccall tom thank you for the article - definitely something that is not my cup of tea

message 247: by J M (new)

J M Shorney (jmshorney) | 27 comments I enjoy a Vampire story if it's real horror. But not the 'Twilight' kind of Vampire or modern Werewolf or Vampire stories. It must be dark and Gothic. And old..

Tom Mathews | 671 comments J M wrote: "I enjoy a Vampire story if it's real horror. But not the 'Twilight' kind of Vampire or modern Werewolf or Vampire stories. It must be dark and Gothic. And old.."

I don't know that it has to be old but you can't write 'The 90-year-old virgin' and expect us to believe it's a vampire.

message 249: by Cameron (new)

Cameron Wiggins | 369 comments Just cannot possibly read anything vampire, zombie, appolytic, romance or porn like the Heinz 57 Shades of Grey, and most futuristic books.

I know others may enjoy them and that is fine. These books are just not my cup of tea.
