I'm pretty sure you just jump in on the buddy read. And start commenting on the thread as of the start date.

Hi Minnie, you can see which buddy reads are already planned here - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... and you are free to join any of them, simply find the thread (using the search option on the right hand sign of the screen is probably easiest) and then just comment on the thread to say that you are joining, and read your book as normal (whilst posting your thoughts on the buddy read thread using spoiler tabs where needed ☺) Hope that helps ☺

What you do is go to one of the wanted buddy read threads. If it's a standalone or you only want to read a specific book in a series then go to this thread https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Then post either a link or a book cover. Book cover usually works better. You can do this by going to add book/author typing in the book you want then scrolling to the bottom and click book instead of link and then click add.

Then suggest a time. ASAP? Later in the month?

It can take some time for someone to respond so be patient.

I'm planning to read a book that is 96 pages so It won't get me a point. Can I include a short children's book (160 pages) even if it has pictures for the four more pages it takes to get one point or no? Or does the 96 page book get 1/2 a point?

Hi Adriana, you would earn 0.5 points for a book which is 96 pages long. You could read another short novella and then add the pages together to take you over the 100 pages, but a 160 page book with illustrations would also be worth 0.5 points on its own so you wouldn't really be gaining anything by adding those together.

If I remember correctly you have a month from start date. So if it started the 1st you have till the end of today. If it started the 15th you have until the 15th? I'm not 100% sure

Hi Andrea, Group Buddy Reads are slightly different to normal buddy reads because they have a set start and end date. February GBRs run Feb 1st to Feb 28th, and then March GBRs will run from March 1st to March 31st, so GBRs don't run beyond the end of whichever month they are picked for.

We did use to run GBRs for 1 month from their start date, and then we staggered the start dates (so on the 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th), but people found that too confusing, so now all the GBRs run from the first of the month, for that month only.

What happens if your buddy doesn't read with you? Do you still count it as a BR or no?

For a series read, do you need to read the series from start to finish, or can you jump around?

As long as you had a buddy, and they just didn't turn up, we still count it as a buddy read ☺

You can read them however you and your buddy choose, but we would expect for you to be reading them at roughly the same time. So if you were reading books 2, 3, and 4 we'd expect your buddy to be reading 2, 3, and 4 as well. If you were reading books 2, 3, and 4, and your buddy was reading 7, 8, and 9 then we wouldn't count that as a buddy read.
