Cinder is another book by Marissa Meyer, who I think is a really great author, and the first book in the Lunar Chronicles. It takes place, for the most part in future Beijing, and it's all about how the Lunars (people living on the moon) infected the people on earth with the plague and will only give them the cure if the newly crowned king- Kai agrees to a marriage alliance.
