As I was listening to Sonnet 2 as I had some audiobooks and poems downloaded for when I was Vacation, I felt I can really connect with it. It was a chilly autumn day in Summer where winter was felt in the air. Leaves changing colour much sooner than they should as rain fell and animals prepared for the winter.
I could feel beauty that Shakespeare was talking about. I live in Canada and as he spoke about Winter, it was very easy to picture winter. As they can be cold and long which dries out the Beauty in our skin. As it drags on, we feel like hybernating and our brows get heavy. The winter can make skin feel old and as it cracks from dry air, it can leave little beauty trenches.
That is what I took away from Shakespeates Sonnet 2 As it made me feel like my Canadian winters. That is exactly how it made me feel. At the end as it spoke of blood warm, I felt that he was saying "that even though as cold as it is, there is warmth in long winters." It is true even though long winters can feel like forty winters, there is still warmth in it.
