hav somone read the book would ugive a spoiler

Here goes:-
- H was responsible for h and her father to be thrown in prison in France ; marked with the fleur de lys brand ; shipped off to america to be married off to french colonist there. h was a just a casualty of H's revenge against h's father, who caused H's mother to be banished to America many years ago.

- H plotted to marry h when she arrived in America

- H's dead wife Aurore is mentioned alot in the book. h looks just like the dead wife. And there is a mystery surrounding the dead wife 's death.
Quote from the book ....“Mon Dieu, m'sieur, have you raised the dead?”

- since its plot takes place in New Orleans, it revolves heavily around voodoo/ voodooienne ... Which puts h's life in danger.

This was not a bad read but The Eagle and The Rose reads better, imo.
