I've seen lots of Bookstagramers with newer Kindles or iPads take pictures of the cover on their device for their instagram posts

I read a lot digitally and am very open about discussing disability on my bookstagram and that for me and my disabilities ebooks are super important. Part of why I joined was because I knew I had something different to bring to the table and that with my disability and general poor health and the financial struggles that go along with that (which honestly is a big reason I review books too. Can’t afford to buy them often!) I knew my account would never be as perfect or pretty as many and probably much smaller as a result.

Not gonna lie, there’s a lot of pressure anyway. I don’t have a tablet but I’ve used my black and white Kindle screen and when I had to get a new phone during coronavirus (sucks because my old one could’ve been repaired but eh it’s fully functional except it won’t make calls!) I use the old phone a lot now. Sometimes I will post the cover in full color as a second photo. But I post my phone or kindle all over the place. There’s tons of us doing similar and I’m thrilled to see that if anything it’s been spreading maybe especially because with the virus related stuff going on publishers are sending far more digital copies out than ever before too.

Anyway, my account isn’t huge but I’ve been doing it just over a year now. I do get some physical galleys (my last post is a photo of one but next book I’m working on and one I’ll be posting next Tuesday are from Net Galley) but sometimes even when I have a galley or finished copy that’s physical I still read the ebook because it’s easier. But check my account out I’ve been experimenting with different stuff and posted probably as many or more ebooks than physical ones. @WordyBirdyReads

Pre pandemic was nice (I’m obviously high risk and not able to leave home much af all as someone without a car in the middle of a major city) but I used to keep my Kindle on me all the time as much for grabbing a good photo when I saw an opportunity as for getting reading in. Point being, you can be just as creative or more or simply post a photo of the cover. One of my most popular posts ever was about the Alex Trebek bio and I’d done the audiobook and wasn’t feeling well so just literally edited a photo of the cover (used PicCollage) so it would fit right on Instagram. Didn’t snap a photo myself at all. Yet that post got tons of comments and attention. So you can even just do that.

thanks for the tips! im def thinking about making photos while the book is open on the tablet. sometimes though though i am unable to open the arcs in the apps so i have to use the browser and there is no way to hide the website url.. it does not give anything away it just bothers me aesthetic wise

I read and review mostly crime fiction, literary fiction, historical fiction, and women's fiction. My emphasis is on the mystery/thriller genres though.
