Question about Free Giveaways

Guess how many I ended up giving away? 500+ (minus the 5, of course - just kidding, there's no way to know the names in either process). But, you have to admit that maybe it was those same 500 who saw an opportunity and took it. Sales from the free run? Just one or two. Lotta time for no immediate return to speak of.
As to how to do it, you're giving away your ebook. Amazon/Kindle takes care of the whole thing for you. You just fill out the on-screen forms, track it on-screen and get the post-run results the same way (data's pretty good).
GR giveaways are for print books - GR sends you the addresses and you package up the books and ship them, at your expense.
Good luck.

You'll also have a much bigger audience for free days if you use Amazon for it. If you do a little research, there are a lot of sites that advertise freebies, but some of them require X amount of time notice. If you're willing to put in a little extra work, freebies can definitely go far.
I've published my debut Sci-Fi&Fantasy novel on Amazon KDP less than one month ago.
The link to my book is here:

I'm planning to give away this for free to build my audience base. The free giveaways will be in way better format than the kindle version.
My question is: should I change the setting of my book on Amazon to public domain if I give it away for free?
And how do I give it away? Put it in PDF and e-mail to you?
I'm really new in this. Any help is appreciated.
Thank you
