Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments It's agile testing. So it's basically concepts. It's not hard per se, but, they have the annoying habit of asking which one is more suitable... Or from the 4, which is less likely to be used... And those are a tad confusing

Go Sonia! You got this 🧐

message 158: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8052 comments I was looking at the prizes for Sin, and I want to know if you guys want to aim for any in particular, or just play it out and see what happens. Things to contemplate in the days before we start...

It looks like we could try to win both ◈ Greed- Highest number of books read by the end of the challenge
and ◈ Gluttony- Highest number of points by the end of the challenge.

But then, ◈ Sloth
Most accurate reading to sign-up goals
probably would be off the table. And, not trying for sloth will take points from trying for Gluttony.

Well done mods. I love the strategy!

The others- mini challenge points, mod points- are out of our little planning hands at the moment.

We could try for the BOM prize, but we are one of the smaller teams, so a lot of us would have to read and get DQs for the BOMs.

The last one- Pride- Highest number of books read from your matching Sin, may be one I let down the team on. It is not my category, but I have found quite a few red covers, so maybe.

Anyway, just some thoughts while drinking coffee and wishing my cats would go to work for me today.
It is overcast, and kind of beautiful outside. Nice morning.

Greed would be good for smaller books, but I think a lot of us are looking forward to TT so we can read bigger books, which would definitely make Gluttony the more obvious choice.

Pride isn't only the genre, I believe, but the other qualifications too and I've been keeping my eyes open for red covers (for example, I plan to kick off with a long, loooong anticipated re-read of Duma Key by Stephen King ).
So red covers, gorgeous covers, your fave author, new releases, etc. all of those will count towards the Lust tower for the pride medal, if that makes sense?

Absolutely chucking it down all day here. *sigh*

message 160: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8052 comments I love the idea of going for Gluttony. And also the mini-challenge one, because why not? It is possible we could make a try for gluttony and Sloth.

This is so fun!!!!

message 161: by Elen (last edited Sep 27, 2019 09:17AM) (new)

Elen | 1273 comments My opinions on all prizes.

◈ Greed - I think it's doable if we stick to read 120%, so we won't get a penalty.
◈ Gluttony - I believe that we should aim for this one. Also, I am going to read 500+ pages book and no less, so we can do it.
◈ Lust - we can get that only if Jenny will do her magic :))
◈ Pride - we can try to do it, but we shouldn't put this on as a priority.
◈ Sloth - This one is 50/50. Depends on how long our books would be. If shorter then we should aim for 120%, but if most of them would be doorstoppers/long books then it would be easy to stick 38 book per week (Gluttony prize depend on that strategy)
◈ Wrath - it doable, but depends on mini
◈ Envy - I'm not going to read BOMs, so it would be really hard to get this one. Also, as Jenny said we are a small team.

message 165: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I’m trying to set myself up for some sin bingos as my first books. :)

But it’s hard to read the two books I need to read before tower teams starts when I’m at Disney World. Oops! X)

message 166: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8052 comments Awww. Say "HI" to Mickey for me!

message 167: by Teddie (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 2288 comments I like the Gluttony and Sloth approach. I have a few red's lined up, but agree with the general consensus on Envy (BOMs) - for the october ones, I recently read one, and I'm not sure I'll get the other one in time.

I've got a few bigger books lined up, and my goal is to read more Bingos than not - love the planning spreadsheet :)

message 168: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 7435 comments Mod
Oh good! I’m glad people are liking the planning sheet and finding it useful.

I’m almost afraid to see how many books are on there when I’m back from the beach

message 169: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8052 comments I'm guessing that since everyone on this wonderful team has played before, that we are all fine with using the spreadsheet to record books read. But, if anyone is not comfy doing that, and would prefer a books read thread, let us know, and we will sort it.

message 170: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12885 comments Only a little over a week to go!!! Don't know about you guys, but I'm starting to get a little (ahem) impatient over here...

But yes, definitely down with the gluttony option. Again, with only 8 readers, it'll be hard work, but I'm sure we can give it a shot!

In the meantime I suppose I'd best go finish my last lava challenge countdown book! :)

message 171: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8052 comments Hey Steven, the new Jodi Taylor come out on the 17th!!!!
I assume you know already, but I just thought I would share. And it has a blue cover!

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12885 comments ohhh, is that the Just One Damned Thing After Another series? I have book one ready to read. I take it they're worth the time?

message 174: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments It’s a spin-off of that one... so I’d recommend catching up on the regular series first!

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments And yes Sammy, I absolutely love this series!!!

Jenny | 8052 comments Sammy wrote: "ohhh, is that the Just One Damned Thing After Another series? I have book one ready to read. I take it they're worth the time?"

These books have become some of my comfort food books. I have read them and listened to them. The audible narrator is terrific. The I need a pick-me-up, I reread the series. Highly highly recommend!!!!

message 177: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12885 comments Awesome! I picked the first one up on a whim (because I loved the cover. Yes, I'm judgey like that), but haven't gotten around to reading it yet, because it has not fit a single challenge task all year, lol!

message 178: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12885 comments I've not been obsessively planning my reads at all... honest! I only went and made a list I can tick off as I go along, lol.

https://www.listchallenges.com/10-wee...

Those aren't all the actual covers of the editions I have (I have a lot more red!), but hopefully it'll keep me on track! (I fully expect to have gone completely off-plan halfway through week 1...)

I will occasionally be able to take on an extra book in a week (I'm down for two), and it looks like we won't be going on holiday at the end of October after all (boo!), so will be able to log as usual every week :)

Anyone else being as obsessive prepared as I am?

message 179: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8052 comments I am not prepared or obsessive at all. How dare you say that?
Here are two of the four pages of books I plan to read. I really like crossing things off of lists. Don't laugh.

message 180: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8052 comments Oh, and I will be visiting my sister and my new niece Halloween weekend, so if anyone can pick up extra books, that may be the time.

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12885 comments Jenny wrote: "Oh, and I will be visiting my sister and my new niece Halloween weekend, so if anyone can pick up extra books, that may be the time."

Done. I'll be starting on Nicholas Nickleby on audio in week 1, so It should be done around about that week :)

And I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes lists. I kinda need them. without the motivation of crossing stuff off, nothing gets done. Period.

message 182: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8052 comments Knicholas Knickleby with a K? Also by Simon Wells?

Sorry- Monty Python flashback- I love the bookstore sketch of theirs.

Looooove me some Monty Python :)

message 184: by Elen (new)

Elen | 1273 comments I have made some plans for what I want to read in the first couple of week. As most of my books are borrowed from the library or Libby, I need to have a plan.

Jenny, don't worry we can always cover someone if life happens. We are cool team :))

message 185: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8052 comments Thanks Elen!

And I realized that I remembered incorrectly. It was Edmund Wells that wrote Knicholas Knickleby according to Monty Python. I hate getting a quote wrong!!!!

All these planners with lists and such. After my own heart . I like everyone this team already.

I need to get myself together now that we are back from vacation.

And on another note, thank you for not being cray-cray drama llamas. At least before the game even starts.

message 187: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8052 comments Judith, did you have a good time? Did C drink all of the ocean water, and learn the joys of sand in his shorts?

message 188: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 7435 comments Mod
He lost his little baby mind. Ran straight for the ocean and never wanted to leave. Sort of got him to play in the sand. Mainly though he wanted to be in the ocean. Or pool (they had salt water pools where we stayed so that was nice).

His swim diaper kept sand from reaching places it shouldn’t be. Lol. But even after hosing him off before heading in, there was always more sand in his shorts. That’s the nature of sand I suppose.

Really he just wanted to be in the water all the time. Most exhausting beach vacation I’ve ever had. Totally worth it though.

message 189: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8052 comments Confirmed then. Part merman. Get ready for the spangled footless fin costumes in your future!

Bless, my little boy was the same when he was younger (since turning teenager however nothing has been able to induce him to go anywhere near water besides the shower, lol)

Glad you had a good time. If you're done with the sunshine, could you be so kind as to send some over this way? :)

message 191: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 7435 comments Mod
At least he showers though right? That’s something to be thankful for. Haha

Maybe he saw Jaws too many times. Stephen Spielberg never goes in the ocean anymore, he said he knows the sharks are waiting for him.

And if I could send it I would, the weather was perfect sunny and in the 80s.

I am soooo lucky! He hates being smelly, so showers twice a day! I can quite happily say I probably have the only non-stinky teenager in the world! lol.

As far as I know, he's not actually seen Jaws. Besides Marvel and anything starring Gerry Butler or Arnold S. he doesn't really watch much of anything.
He's far too busy with his three loves: gaming, guitar and grub, lol!

YAY!

My very first will be a quick audio (I think I was doing an extra the first week, as Sonia has her hands full with studying), then launching into my first chunky one, and starting on the first of 3 planned Dickens books (this one also on audio).

My second week will be a little harder, as my parents are coming to visit for the week, and apparently I can't spend the whole week with my nose or ears in a book! I mean really! You'd think they'd be used to it by now! :)

message 197: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I’m gonna try to squeeze one more book in after the one I’m reading now so that my first two reads will both be sin bingos :)

And boo on family visiting and not letting you keep your nose in the book!

I think I'll start with a reread of Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1) by J.R. Ward , to start of with a Lust Sin Bingo ;)

and then hopefully if I've been able to read book 1 before the challenge, Thunderhead (Arc of a Scythe, #2) by Neal Shusterman
