I'm looking forward to the blow-by-blow read thru

Jenny | 8052 comments Wow. Easter store, man in an Easter bunny costume, a woman who has a thing for Easter Bunnies...really, what is there to say?

"...she thought of him as she masturbated with her carrot vibrator."

Want more? Too bad. that was the best line. And, it wasn't funny enough to spew lunch across my monitor. Oh well. Worth trying anyway.

Not a beet vibe?! Lucky there Jenny - you could eat your root veg lunch with no sexual overtones!

message 254: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12885 comments Hmpf. They didn't even bother with the exchange rate, and the UK version is 99 pence, so even more outrageous! lol.

message 255: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments The best line was a carrot toy?

No beet spitting inducing?

I feel cheated

message 256: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8052 comments Yeah. Maybe if it had been 10 pages long, and the characters fleshed out a bit, it would have been brilliant. But sadly, no. Batter cover than book.

Don’t forget to rate and review it 😂

message 258: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8052 comments Oh god. really? Perhaps I will try a Taken by the T-Rex type review. But not tonight. Tonight I am finishing up a couple of slightly longer and slightly better books.
In the Night Wood by Dale Bailey is so good. I only have a few pages left, and I don't want it/desperately want it to end.

message 259: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Okay, I've finished the first two Throne of Glass books (because book three is my first planned Sin Bingo/Tower Teams Read), now working on Scythe (because book two is my second planned Sin Bingo/Tower Teams Read), and hopefully finishing an ARC before then too.

Let's hope Tower Teams doesn't bring my reading mojo back TOO much because I don't want to throw off my estimated reading/accuracy and get us penalized! :P

message 260: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8052 comments Well done, Steven!
Don't worry, if you end up reading bunches, I have estimated to read books to spare. I can switch some shorter books for longer books, and we will be golden!

I just bought a pile of books from my lovely little local bookstore on Tuesday, and then I get an alert today that Philip Pullman's new book came out today. On a Thursday. But why? Books don't get released on Thursdays. Harrumph.

Oh good, now I'm one more book behind on reading any of the Dark Materials. LOL

message 262: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8052 comments You know that HBO is starting the series soon of those books, right?

Yes... but I don't have HBO! LOL

message 264: by Claire (new)

Claire | 4251 comments I really need to read His Dark Materials. I have a colleague who keeps pestering me about it. That and the Night Circus. lol.

I need to catch up on them too. I bought the first three on Kindle Deals last year... but who has the time to read every single one of the 800+ books we buy on deals every year? LOL

message 266: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 7435 comments Mod
I didn't particularly enjoy His Dark Materials when I read the series. Loved The Night Circus though.

The nice thing about ebook deals is they don't sit in piles around your office judging you for not reading them. Plus they don't take up space in your house. LOL

message 267: by Claire (new)

Claire | 4251 comments Oh yes, my kindle is so full of unread books that sometimes I'm afraid to even open it, LOL
But again so are my physical shelves... Second-hand bookstores are my undoing... Why am I doing this to myself?

I've heard so much praise for the Night Circus at this point that I'm afraid to start it...

message 269: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments It's called "addiction" Claire, but there are worse ones to have.

Valid point Judith, though I do SEE all the kindle books waiting for me and feel guilt LOL

Claire | 4251 comments Steven wrote: "It's called "addiction" Claire, but there are worse ones to have."

True, true

message 271: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12885 comments I only tend to get Kindle books when I can't get hold of a physical copy, so it's looking pretty minimalist in there...

My house however has bookcases everywhere storing over 2000 books, only about 60% of which I have actually read so far... *sigh*

The book I just started would have been a fitting one for team Lust, as it kicks off with a 100 person orgy! Darned pesky Satyrs! :)

message 272: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8052 comments I love the fact that so many of the hardcovers I bought and haven't read yet work for TT. I have set aside a huge stack of books that I intend to get through in the next couple of months.
Of course, it only makes a small dent in the unread pile of books, but it is a good start.

I’d like the title of this 👀 for science of course

Also hello from team Pride!

message 275: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12885 comments Oh well, if it's for scientific purposes... How could I refuse :D

Autumn Bones (Agent of Hel, #2) by Jacqueline Carey - which was literally the only book in my vast collection I could find to fit the last safezone 2 lava tasks! lol.

message 276: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I have HBO. Maybe is about time I read that series.

BTW, please tell me a discovery of witches is not going to be canceled because the series ends in a terrible cliffhanger and I haven't read the books either, so I am terribly annoyed.

message 277: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 7435 comments Mod
I don’t think so, I think that series already signed for seasons 2&3 to cover all 3 books.

message 278: by Claire (new)

Claire | 4251 comments I've also been waiting impatiently for season 2 of a Discovery of Witches. Apparently it's on the way, but we don't have an air date yet.

I really want to try Jacqueline Carey's books. I've hear amazing things about her Kushiel's series. But these are so big it's scary. Have you read them? Or any other of Carey's books? Where do you think I should start?

I might have to read the books to know how it ends... Its trailer was the reason I got HBO.

(That and because I might be the only soul around that hasn't watched GoT)

I so want to see the next season as well.
Have you guys noticed that the series looks really flat though? It's as if they used really cheap cameras or something. For scenery and a cast that should appear lush and gorgeous, it is just a bit dull.

message 282: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Ugh. Game of Thrones. Great for almost 6 seasons... then the last two destroyed all the greatness.

I loved the Kushiel books - Phèdre's Trilogy. I read them years ago and have been wanting to reread. I have a few chunky books on my list to read during TT - maybe will add a few more :)

I read the first couple in the Hel series, and they were ok as well - just a very different tone from the Kushiel books.

message 284: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8052 comments Did any of you ever read Maia (Beklan Empire #2) by Richard Adams ? It is by the guy who wrote Watership Down (Watership Down, #1) by Richard Adams , and I read it years ago. From what I read on the Kushiel's Dart summary, it sounds like it might be in the same kind of world.
I might grab my old paperback and add it to the list...

I've read both Kushiel series, and the related Namaah series too, and absolutely adore them, The original trilogy I tend to re-read every couple of years.
This agent of Hel series is an urban fantasy, and the books are much smaller. Still enjoyable, but not as rich and intricate as the others :)

And Sonia, I haven’t watch a single episode of GoT. So you aren’t the only one. But we may be the only 2 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'm on the same both with you. I haven't seen it yet too, but maybe someday...after reading books.

message 288: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Yeah, we might.
I shocked one of my coworkers during our English classes because apparently, I was expected to watch it.

Just because I like vampires and werewolves... Ts Ts... Hey I like smutt vampires and werewolves and I gave up on True Blood. Not even all the sex was able to hook me up.

We'll see

I'd definitely be reading them if I hadn't done so already this year, lol.

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12885 comments One more day folks! Best get finished with those lava books, because unfortunately they won't count! lol.

message 295: by Jenny (new)

message 296: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12885 comments I'm rushing to get mine done. Will probably be tomorrow morning (UK time), then I can take the first TT book up to bed with me in the evening. Timing! :)
