no, lol, it is not banned. There are a lot of people ranting. The way it goes is that the captains have agreed that if a book looks like a color then that is good enough. If it is questionable then we check tineye.

message 105: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1978 comments As Minx said. People were already getting way to exacting and this is supposed to be fun. On top of the tineye has the tendency to chose weird colors at times that by eye one would say is something different. So if it's questionable bring it to us as your captains first. :)

message 106: by Christina (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 3008 comments ok that's weird…

anyway my ebook copy of Wilder Girls came through already and it's this one Wilder Girls by Rory Power - can you find out whether this cover will work for green as well?

I miss being (co-)captain sigh, I'm so curious and always wanna know what's going on behind the scenes too lol

Yes, The consensus is that Wilder Girl's cover is indeed green :D

Christina (chrissy__) | 3008 comments Just curious, did y'all want to be in a chatty team or not? :)

JanEyre9 I wanted a chatty team. in the past I've had a team that wasnt very communicative and it wasn't as much fun.

message 113: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Reads (minxreadsalot) | 2485 comments I prefer to be on a chatty team but I would be ok either way. I like getting to know people and expanding my book reading horizons. 😀

Cali! Where in California? We lived in No Cal (just outside of Sac) for 5 years.

I am in another team challenge that all they do is post & I tend to forget about that challenge. Lol

message 117: by May (new)

May (honeyedblood) | 30 comments Same with me, I asked for chatty. Otherwise it kind of seems like you might as well be doing a solo challenge, because you’re not really gaining anything from just seeing other people are reading things without knowing what they thought or how it’s going.

I'm in SoCal! NorCal is nice, I used to visit there all the time.

Christina (chrissy__) | 3008 comments Whoa so many people have signed up for DQs for Wilder Girls already!! And I'm not sure if I should dare volunteer for DQs for the backroom BOM 🙈

I prefer chatty teams as well. My team did not stop talking at WoB haha!

message 120: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Reads (minxreadsalot) | 2485 comments I signed up for the adult and YA BOM :D Should be interesting reads

message 121: by Christina (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 3008 comments ^ but you didn't sign up for writing DQs (/backup), right? because there's no need to 'sign up' if you're just reading along and answering questions :)

Maritza (spanishwhispers) | 2241 comments Oh the BOM books have long wait list in library. If they come through i'll read and answer questions.

message 124: by Dragana (new)

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) I am not sure if I will read BOM books, right now neither of them attracts me..

message 125: by Christina (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 3008 comments Maritza wrote: "Oh the BOM books have long wait list in library. If they come through i'll read and answer questions."

that's because they're both new or pretty new releases. Gideon the Ninth only got released two weeks ago, and Wilder Girls back in July. 2 more people have already put a hold on the e-copy of Wilder Girls I currently have, and I can't even start reading it yet. I feel so bad for the people who have to keep waiting because of me... xD

in order to get BOM points you can read them until one month after the discussions start though :)

message 126: by Maritza (new)

Maritza (spanishwhispers) | 2241 comments @ Cristina - hopefully they come through on time. I am convinced that a lot of those people are on GR.

message 127: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (itsmedaisy) | 279 comments Hey guys!

I'm back from my trip! Time to get back to planning my reads.

I saw the Gideon the Ninth book at the bookstore yesterday, it has black sprayed edges, really pretty looking book, it made me want to read it more. I judge books by their covers I guess! I do have the audio on my list, I will definitely be reading that one for the BOM, shooting for the others also.

No on DQs.

I am only reading the books for the points honestly. I almost never participate in BOMs.

Welcome Back!! Hope your trip was a blast.

I can also be seduced by a pretty cover. I am pretty open about it, lol. I love the cover of Gideon the Ninth and I am hoping I like the story.

Melissa Reads (minxreadsalot) | 2485 comments For those who are reading Wilder Girls the book is a Sin Bingo. Green cover, YA, and Alysa H from Team Ira read it on March 27, 2019. Not to mention everyone else participating in the BOM. :D

when in a book store or the library I definitely judge books by their cover as well, but I'd like to believe that I've gotten much better thanks to goodreads and booktube. not all gorgeous covers are books I'll necessarily enjoy and vice versa (but tbh Gideon does nothing for me :x )

this is basically me. I never read BOMs unless it means more points in team challenges. same with Buddy Reads (for ttvi last year).

Christina (chrissy__) | 3008 comments so when are we going to discuss or find out how we're going to tackle this team challenge? and are you going to update your reserved spots on page 1 with all the important info? :)

nice, I can't wait! it's less than two weeks now until the tt officially starts!!!

Maritza wrote: "Yes Christina as always I am confused as to what I will read for challenge."

I might have mentioned this already but I made a spreadsheet with my sort-of planned reads about two weeks ago so I'm giddy to get started hah!

message 139: by JanEyre9 (new)

JanEyre9 I started scouting out a few books also, I can't wait to get started :)

message 140: by Melissa (last edited Sep 24, 2019 12:04PM) (new)

Melissa Reads (minxreadsalot) | 2485 comments Ok, while I am waiting to confer with our amazing Captain I thought we could start a discussion of book reading commitments. You can refer to message #11 that discusses penalties and such for reading to little to too much. Needless to say they creators of our challenge want this to be fun and not a read-a-thon so they have capped up at between 30 - 46 books. Any more of less and there are penalties (See message #11)

Here is the breakdown of books each person committed to reading when they signed up and gave their monthly reading amount:

Shelby 8.75
Minx 8.75
Ashley 2.5
Christina 1.75
Dragana 2
Jan 3.75
Kinga 1.25
Mama 2.5
Maritza 2.5
May 1.25
Sophie 3

Please note that Kinga has not checked in yet and we may need to step up to cover her amount (if we don’t get an alternate) but there is still time for her to check in.

All of this to say, look at your committed amount and either round it down or round it up to what you would feel comfortable reading this amount each week during the challenge keeping in mind that we will have mini-challenges to read for along the way.

If we all round up to the next #, with the exception of Dragon and Sophie as they are already whole numbers, then that gives us 42 books read per week. Which leaves us with 4 extra books that can be read

What I was thinking was that we could give our book commitments and then see how many extra books we had per week and then we could have a weekly discussion on who would like to read a little extra. I will have to, of course, run this by Shelby to see what she thinks is a good idea because this is not a dictatorship :D But we can start with seeing what you are each comfortable with first.

So, what are you in for? AND no worries if you have to round down there will be no judgments. We are supposed to have fun and do our best. :D

message 141: by JanEyre9 (new)

JanEyre9 I can definitely round up to a solid 4 books a week and can probably do 5 on most weeks.

message 142: by Maritza (new)

Maritza (spanishwhispers) | 2241 comments I can say that I commit to 2 a week and most weeks can make that 3. Right now I am trying to finish some of my yearly challenges so that I can focus on TT. Lately I have just been reading to complete challenges as there are no books that I must read.

Mamacita aka MawMaw (mamawantsbedtimestory) | 441 comments I will commit to 2 books a week. Some weeks I would be able to read 3 books & some weeks only 2. It's all up in the air for me as it's depending on my health & schedule. I wish I could let ya'll know now, but I can't. I will keep ya'll posted throughout the competition tho.

message 144: by Ashley (last edited Sep 24, 2019 12:25PM) (new)

Ashley (itsmedaisy) | 279 comments I could go up or down on mine, I was thinking if I was reading too fast that I would throw in a longer book to keep on track for my number. So I could do 3 a week, or drop down to 2 with a longer one if we are reading too much that week. I can be flexible!

message 145: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Reads (minxreadsalot) | 2485 comments Thanks everyone for their input and willingness to read extra when they can. There will be extra reading that will need to be done each week and it looks like we should be able to split this between several readers which takes off the burden :D

message 146: by Maritza (new)

Maritza (spanishwhispers) | 2241 comments FYI if I read longer books it would only be 1 per week. So I may not be able to do high points.

message 147: by Christina (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 3008 comments Maritza wrote: "FYI if I read longer books it would only be 1 per week. So I may not be able to do high points."

not true actually! I mean I don't know which books to you are 'longer books' and which ones are 'shorter books', but if you read two 300p books a week (2x30 points) vs one 500p book (75 points) the 500 page one would get us more points :)

most books I read are 300-400 pages, but I do have a few 500+ ones on my list as well which I will try to read this challenge (especially since one them is a book a friend lent me over a year already, oops x))

@Minx I'm sorry but I'm not able to commit to a solid number of books I'll read each week. I'll read 1-2, some weeks I miiiiight even finish a third, but I can't commit to a solid number. 7 books are what I read on average in a month that has a team challenge in it so that's what I signed up for. but that usually doesn't include 500+ pages books, so I really can't say for sure how much I'll read *hides*
