a lot of teams have signed up for it already though and the book is very short so I don't think they'll pick more than 3 people for DQs... :(

Melissa Reads (minxreadsalot) | 2485 comments To follow up with a point Christina made....

Book page counts do make a big difference and even if you only read one book a book that is over 500 pages that will make a huge difference.

◈ For reading books
Books between 100 and 499 pages = 0.1 points per page
Books between 500 and 799 pages = 0.15 points per page
Books 800 pages or more = 0.2 points per page

NOTE: Book Points will be rounded to integer.

EXAMPLE:
Pages Points
160 -------- 16
450 -------- 45
500 -------- 75
750 -------- 113
800 -------- 160
1050 ------- 210

As you assign each book to a sin, using one of the three categories (color, genre, criteria) you will get bonus points.

7 points for achieving Sin Bingo
5 points for each book used for colour cover
3 points for each book used for top shelf
1 point for each book used for sin specification (EXCEPT for Avarice, which gets 0 points)

Here are some examples of point scenarios:

King of Scars (Nikolai Duology, #1) by Leigh Bardugo My copy of King of Scars is 514 pages which makes it worth 77 page points. Then if you add in the fact that the cover is brown (one of the sin colors) that adds 5 points which makes it worth a total of 82 points.

514 x .15= (77.1) 77 + 5= 82 points

Now here is another example same scenario but lower page count:

Murder at Kensington Palace (A Wrexford & Sloane Mystery Book 3) by Andrea Penrose My copy of Murder at Kensington Palace is 304 pages which makes it worth 30 page points. Then if you add in the fact that the cover is red (one of the sin colors) that adds 5 points which makes it worth a total of 35 points.

304 x .10= (30.4) 30 + 5= 35 points

You can clearly see that even if I read 2 books at 304 pages, they still wouldn't equal what reading one book over 500 pages that had a sin color cover would make.

I will put this example in message #12 for future reference. If any one has any questions please post them so that they can be answered. :D

Melissa Reads (minxreadsalot) | 2485 comments also as a follow up, do not worry if you aren't reading 500+ page books. I will be honest that most of my books are going to be between 300-450 pages.

I have a ton of books that I bought but haven't read and those are the books I want to read for this challenge and they vary in page count and aren't all high point books.

I am just going to do the best I can with what I have :D and that is all that we are expecting from you.

Ashley (itsmedaisy) | 279 comments I have a few 500+ page ones ready to go, but I do have a bunch of 300-400ish page ones too. I can definitely try to work in as many long ones as possible, I'm excited for this to get started!

Me too! I don't think I can really plan anymore, I am probably to the point of being over-planned at this point. Can't wait!

message 163: by Christina (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 3008 comments Ikr, me too! I keep opening my planning spreadsheet but don't have anything left to add lol. And I finally wanna start my library books ahhh!

Mamacita aka MawMaw (mamawantsbedtimestory) | 441 comments I'm not really good at planning my reading aside from BR reads. A lot of times my mood predicts what I want to read. I can plan out books but by the time I need it for a challenge, I am not in the mood to read it.

Mamacita aka MawMaw (mamawantsbedtimestory) | 441 comments Does it matter if the book is an anthology? I know we would need to read the whole thing, but that's the only way I'm gonna get a long book in.

As per rules anthologies can be read but counted as individual books. Correct me if i'm wrong oh captains.

oh, don't get me wrong, I'm an absolute mood reader too. it's just a spreadsheet with about 30 books I would like to read somewhat soon and which sins they'll work for as a little overview :)

Per the rules:

◈ Anything with the word" boxed set" in the title on Goodreads can not be used as "one book". They need to be shelved as separate books to count for this challenge.

:D

Melissa Reads (minxreadsalot) | 2485 comments Listen Teamies, I am still waiting to touch base with Shelby, but in the meantime if you have any questions I will do my best to answer them.

message 170: by Christina (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 3008 comments Anthologies aren't 'box sets', so you're good to go Mama (as long as the book is long enough and you read all of it :))

Mamacita aka MawMaw (mamawantsbedtimestory) | 441 comments K I will ck. Thx!

Mamacita aka MawMaw (mamawantsbedtimestory) | 441 comments It doesn't say Box set anywhere in the blurb. It is tagged anthologies - box set by 1 person tho. Not sure if that would count.

message 177: by JanEyre9 (new)

JanEyre9 Definitely not a slacker! I have a few books scoped out that fit certain Sin criteria but for the most part I'm going to read like I normally would and go for books that appeal to me.

message 178: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Reads (minxreadsalot) | 2485 comments Maritza wrote: "I feel like a slacker. Besides the back room BOM I have nothing else planned."

1) There is plenty of time before the competition starts
2) doing any BOM will give more points to the team and that is a major contribution
3) This is not a read-a-thon and is meant to be one where you read what you want.

So, just go with whatever strikes your fancy and every book you read is a contribution no matter what it is :D

message 179: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Reads (minxreadsalot) | 2485 comments Think of this challenge as a way to clear books off your TBR that you have been wanting to get to but just haven't had the chance :D

message 180: by Maritza (new)

Maritza (spanishwhispers) | 2241 comments Thanks Minx - That is kind of what I do in these challenges. Clear out books that are on my Kindle and TBR pile.

Mamacita aka MawMaw (mamawantsbedtimestory) | 441 comments Minx wrote: "Think of this challenge as a way to clear books off your TBR that you have been wanting to get to but just haven't had the chance :D"

That's what I did. I added in my regular BR reads in Oct & Nov then I just sorted my "top-tbr" list by page numbers. So any I've been wanting to read for a time. So, If I'm struggling for something to read during this time, this will be a perfect list to choose from.

If everybody wasn't talkin about planning, I probably wouldn't have. Mine is not a set in stone plan at all.

message 182: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1978 comments My planning amounts to, hmmmm what books do I have for my Meet & Greet Challenge and my Gang Bang Challenge (yes that’s the name of a quarterly pick for me challenge in the MM Romance group), then what of that matches the categories for Bingo/Pass the Parcel/SSS/SS for the week. And now read as much as possible. ;). And we’ll i try to do all the BOMs.

message 183: by Christina (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 3008 comments Yay, Shelby! Only 10 more days to go! Any news on how you wanna do this?

message 184: by Melissa (last edited Sep 27, 2019 08:34AM) (new)

Melissa Reads (minxreadsalot) | 2485 comments Ok, planning....

I have gone over the range number for books and we are good to stay within the range that will give us bonus points.

I have gone over what makes a sin bingo.

I have gone over the points system and strategy wise what gives us the most points.

Those are the most important points and can be found in message #11 & #12.

Strategy: Depends on how we want to approach this.

Do we want to try for any of the Sinful Prizes?

Message #7 of this thread:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

If we wanted to try for one of those prizes it would affect how we read. If we are not truly interested then our strategy is simple......

Read what you want with a priority going to page counts and cover colours. Based upon the points system here is what will give us the most points in this order:

High page count, Sin Bingo
High page count, Cover Colour
High page count, Genre
High page count, Criteria

That is the best reading strategy we can do.

Participation in BOMs and discussions, DQs etc will also help us.

There will be mini-challenges and I think that might be where we can rack up some points.

Also, there is a spreadsheet which is in message #2 of this thread where we will be entering our books and BOM books. Here is the link as well:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

message 185: by Christina (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 3008 comments But will we have a planning/tracking spreadsheet for us to enter our finished books, or do you just want us to post completion posts in the thread?

message 186: by Mamacita aka MawMaw (last edited Sep 27, 2019 10:52AM) (new)

Mamacita aka MawMaw (mamawantsbedtimestory) | 441 comments I've found a 5 Lust Sin Bingos in the 400 approx page #. If anybody is an HR fan & has a guilty pleasure shelf, can you add Scoundrels of St James #2 https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4... please to your guilty pleasure shelf? If so that might give me another Bingo.

I'm not super competitive but know others are. If ya'll want to do any of the other ones especially envy, you will prolly need to add some of the other members of different teams as friends.

Melissa Reads (minxreadsalot) | 2485 comments Christina wrote: "But will we have a planning/tracking spreadsheet for us to enter our finished books, or do you just want us to post completion posts in the thread?"

The tracking spreadsheet was the one I posted in the last message. I will add it again here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

We add our books under the books tab and the BOM books under the BOM tab.

added to my guilty pleasures shelf. I do like HR. :D

Honestly I don't think TT is the most competitive challenge, not saying that there aren't competitive people but the challenge is not set up as truly competitive. Ha ha ha, I just want to get a lot of books that I have been wanting to read, read. This challenge is the most open one I have ever competed in. Usually the ones I am in are very specific with tasks that are not that easy to find. :D

message 189: by Christina (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 3008 comments I remember last year's TT being quite competitive as it was Harry Potter themed and there were so many different ways on how to make books work /get points, I'm kind of surprised this year's is so 'low key'.

Also Minx, the spreadsheet you mean is our official team one, right? Only you and Shelby have access to edit that, as it should be.

lol, I think everyone should be able to enter their own books.

I have made a spreadsheet for the team but Shelby is wanting to add more to it. When she is done with that then we can use that as a planning spreadsheet if we want to.

Things are different this time around. I know that we are not to have private chat threads and such and that they really want to keep the spirit of the challenge to be about reading books that we want.

Kinga Hi All,

I am not lost :) Sooooo sorry for the delay - for some reason I did not notice we have already started :( Anyhow, I am checking in, trying to catch up with the messages, books, etc. I am committing 3 books this time. I am a first timer. Originally from Hungary, I have been living in Boise, ID since 1995. Usually I read lit fiction and historical fiction, but really, I don't care about genres as long as it is a good book :) More later, now up to catch up!

Thank you! I can actually check in every day as I am on GR every day :D Now that I know where to go... (duh!) Perusing my choices and TBR piles for books. I under-committed because a huge job is coming up for me but who knows... but now I am reading this penalty about too many books...? So I need to be aware of that too.

Hi Christina,
Thanks for the welcome! Kinga is a pretty well known Hungarian name. In the early middle ages a Hungarian princess called Kinga married a Polish royalty, and did a lot of religious work there so much so that she became a Catholic saint of Poland. There is a big cult(ure) of St. Kinga in Poland, including Kinga being a quite popular name as well, but originally Kinga is a Hungarian name.
