In regards to your A Stranger in the House book, they decided it wasn't blue or green enough so it would be a no to either color."

aw man, what a bummer! I thought it might be blue, but oh well.

JanEyre9 wrote: "BOM question - does Sorcery of Thorns count for this challenge or are we starting with the upcoming BOM selections? Sorry if I missed this being covered already."

this was a good question since you usually can get coins (or points) until a month after the BOM started, but I remember for wheel-o-brown this wasn't possible either. it did however count for last year's TT I'm pretty sure.

there's no need to worry Minx, I just checked another website where you can clearly see that on Oct 5, so before daylight savings, it's an hour later for all of us than it will be on Oct 7 [link]

e.g. if we look at 7am AEST right now it would be 11pm here in Austria - if we check 7am AEST on Monday Oct 7 (super easy to change on the website) it'll be 10pm here.

in short, the timezones in the second link you posted are 100% correct :)

(which couldn't have worked out better for me because I usually finish work somewhere around 10pm and walk my dog right after while listening to an audiobook, so I can start right then!!!)

fyi, the books are The Chestnut Man The Chestnut Man by Søren Sveistrup and Two Can Keep a Secret Two Can Keep a Secret by Karen M. McManus and both of their audiobooks are on scribd in case anybody else uses it (or if you want to get a 60 day trial instead of a 30 day trial just join via somebody else's link - they'll get a free month too! so hit me up if you wanna give it a try ;) lol)

I'll obviously join both because POINTS but if anybody wants to write DQs go ahead :)

[November BOM threads will be set up over the weekend]

Just added mine! Gideon is a little on the long side (17 hrs of audio even though its only 448 pages) so I only put 2 on there to be safe, but if we need me to get a third I can definitely do it!

Mamacita aka MawMaw (mamawantsbedtimestory) | 441 comments Question. Is the planned & posted reads Mon-Sun? Because in US it will be Sun-Sat if we go by countdown. How do you want us to plan/post? All the same days or all the countdown?

Mamacita aka MawMaw (mamawantsbedtimestory) | 441 comments Also when we calculate points on pages what then we add whether it 7 for sin, 5 for cover color or 3 for genre/characteristic. I get all that. But what does the following mean?

"1 point for each book used for sin specification (EXCEPT for Avarice, which gets 0 points)"

message 310: by Melissa (new)

Basically, plan the reads before the week starts and post as you complete the books.

Also, plan to have all your books completed before the countdown ends in your timezone because even once you post the completed book Shelby or I have to review it and then re-post it to the official completed thread which takes a little time. So please give me more than an hour to do that, lol

What that means is that if you read a book that fits no cover color, Genre, or other criteria and you have to designate the book as Sin Criteria Anything goes you only get the book points.

Example: Book 350 pages with Anything Goes: 35 points

Same book but Sin Criteria published in 2019: 36 points

There are no additional points outside of book page points for Anything Goes

Melissa Reads (minxreadsalot) | 2485 comments In reference to a cut off time for having books finished I would say try and have all books read by Sunday at noon your time each week.

Sounds perfect!

So do I need to add an additional point or did I do my planned books points correct

that 1 point you're wondering about is just what we get if we're sorting our book via third criteria (except for for Greed where we get no point for third criteria "Anything Goes") instead of cover colour (first criteria) or top shelf (second criteria)

there's no need to worry about it though - when our captains log our finished books into our official team sheet the points are getting counted automatically ;)

1) Make sure all your read books are in your TT 7 folder
2) With BOMs - Make sure you provide the message # or links to where you commented.
3) Read what you want.
4) Keep an eye out for the mini-challenges and participate to the extent you can 🤩

Let's challenge ourselves to read as much as can but to also keep the experience pleasurable 😘

message 328: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Reads (minxreadsalot) | 2485 comments lol, I thought 4 years since I read a book would be enough time to have the "feels like the first time" feeling with a book but I am finding that I remember exactly what takes place in my re-read that I am doing for this challenge. Guess I will have to go back to my rule of it having to have been at least 8 years since I read the book. Damn my memory! ha ha ha

I wanted to re-read Theft of Swords (The Riyria Revelations, #1-2) by Michael J. Sullivan because I love this series. I plan to read one book from the series each week until I've re-read them all. They are huge books so they add points :D

I read that one! I liked it I'm not sure why I never read the next set, I might try to fit one of those into the challenge too. They're so different than most things I read!

Sophie | 182 comments I might read Theft of Swords at some point too! I added it to my tbr this year and of course that helps with the other big book challenge too :D

Thanks! If there is a book you'd like to read then feel free to read it. I think this week there is leeway for some extra reading :D

message 332: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Reads (minxreadsalot) | 2485 comments I love the Riyria series because the dialogue with Hadrian and Royce is so hilarious and yet deep because despite their snarkiness they care for each other. Hadrian reminds me of a happy puppy. I also like that there is a creative and enjoyable overarching plot to enjoy :D

message 333: by Dragana (new)

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) Minx sorry but I can't write a book of books that I plan to read this week since I don't have it. I usually have 50 and more books on my Kindle and then pick the next book when I finish the current one.
Especially since I don't know how much time it will take to read the first book, so depending on that I might choose some short one or thick one...

message 341: by JanEyre9 (new)

JanEyre9 And Prisoner of Azkaban is the best book in the series :)

message 342: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Reads (minxreadsalot) | 2485 comments Just as a FYI from the Mods:

It has brought to our attention that sins change name depending on the place they are in (example: Pride/Vanity)

Although we love the Wrath inducing effect, we also love consistency, and for some members, the lack of it is an important factor of stress.

That been said, the Seven Sins are:

Avarice (aka Greed)
Envy
Gluttony
Lust
Sloth
Vanity (aka Pride)
Wrath

All the teams are named after a name variation of those sins. So, there are tasks for your "Sin"

Just so you don't get confused :D

Mamacita aka MawMaw (mamawantsbedtimestory) | 441 comments What do you mean there are tasks for our sin? Like other than the cover color, genre or criteria items?

message 344: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Reads (minxreadsalot) | 2485 comments Mamacita wrote: "What do you mean there are tasks for our sin? Like other than the cover color, genre or criteria items?"

If you follow this link:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

and look at message #7 you will see Sinful prizes.

For example: Highest number of books read by the end of the challenge will get the Avarice prize.

Some teams are reading strategically to win one of those prizes and that note from the mods is for readers who were seeing different sin names in different places.

I included it because the SS that Shelby had set up has Greed listed instead of Avarice but the SS I set up has Avarice listed instead of Greed. Terms just depended on where we gathered the information from and I wanted everyone to be aware and not get confused.

Ah. Now I know what you meant. I totally forgot about those.

message 346: by Dragana (new)

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) Hi, I have finished my first book. Honestly, I was so confused about the book reporting process. I have a couple of questions:

1) I made an entry in the Team spreadsheet in the Book reporting tab. Is that the correct place where we should enter the books we have read?

2) Also, my book fulfills 2 out of 3 requirements for Pride/Vanity. Does it get points for both of them, or only for one?

3) If I finish reading a book on the weekend, is it too late to report it as read on Monday?

message 347: by Melissa (new)

1) What you did was perfect!

2) You only get points for one and we would choose the cover color for Pride since it is worth more points.

3) I will ask Shelby about this and get back to you.

Thanks!
