I just started Lord John and the Brotherhood of the Blade Lord John and the Brotherhood of the Blade (Lord John Grey Series) by Diana Gabaldon . It does look purplish to me...

message 662: by Dragana (new)

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) It does look purple-ish Esther. I still didn't start my purple cover book (probably tomorrow). If you finish it before me, I don't mind if your book count for the quest. :)

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments Great Michelle!

How is everybody doing if the Christmas arrangements?
Christmas' tree and decorations ready?

This is my favorite holiday, the shops, streets and houses are so beautiful, and even the people are in general more thoughtful and nicer than usually.

What do you guys like about this time of the year?

message 670: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 5067 comments wow...where do you live, Juliana? people being more thoughtful? here they're very impatint, and sometimes downright nasty!

anyway...our decorations go up on 24th and come down on 12th night...5th Jan...it's very British :) I agree that the shop windows and street decorations look nice. and NYC...Macy's, Lord & Taylor and Sak's as well as the tree at Rockefeller Centre are always a great visit. we go every year...but we wait until Christmas Day..when there are no crowds :)

OMG, Jane !
How did you like the book ? Isnt it a cutesy love-story ?!

message 683: by Jane (last edited Dec 17, 2014 12:01PM) (new)

Jane | 705 comments I liked it okay. It is kind of a cute love-story :-)
Also, one of the things I like in a book is when some of the side characters are really good and in this one I liked Boomer and Great-aunt Ida.

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments During this almost six weeks we have read the incredible amount of 157 books! Impressive!!!

Now I wonder, which one is your favorite until now? Why do you like it? Any recommendation?

I'll start:
I read some good books so far, but Ready Player One was so enjoyable, funny and full with 80's references, challenges and tense moments that I have to give it the favorite spot for this challenge.

I totally recommend it, but if you are looking for a fantasy series my vote would go to The Eye of the World. This one is a classic for a reason. It's very good.

You turn!!

message 691: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 5067 comments ha! Juliana...you're certainly asking a lot!! lol choose a favourite book?!?!? I don't think I can choose!!! I could make recs depending on your tastes...but I am not overly discriminating...I seem to really like all my books...I do buy them all...and I don't like to wast money :)

message 692: by Jane (new)

Jane | 705 comments I have finished another book. I know I read a lot in between but it is especially bad when I start new challenges and just now with the Hogwarts challenge I am going for it. It is also the end of the year and I am trying to read the last books in order to complete the challenges that are ending this month. Luckily I only need to read another 2 books for me to achieve that.

Enchanted Secrets by Kristen Middleton

message 693: by Jane (new)

Jane | 705 comments I like most of the books I read as I am not a particular fussy reader and I read a lot of free books.

I think the best book till now though was a bought book.
Foxglove Summer by Ben Aaronovitch. I guess it is urban fantasy as it is about a wizard copper working in London with the weird cases (though in this book he is out of London)

Will update what I've been reading soon - think there are 3 or 4 books to add

Favourite book for now is The Crossing Places. Been in a bit of a rut with reading for a while and this helped lift that a bit.

Juliana - it's a fantastic series. Have got to about book 7 and want to find time for the rest.

Jane - got Foxglove Summer waiting for me on audible once I finish listening to Perfect. I'm looking forward to the next installment of Peter Grant.

message 695: by Juliana (last edited Dec 19, 2014 03:42AM) (new)

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments Jane and Sophie, this Peter Grant books look interesting, I may give it a try next year. :)

Sophie - I do like a good mystery now and then, but I don't think it would me well to read The Crossing Places right now. But people in the BOM discussion seems to have like it.

message 696: by Rose (new)

Rose | 633 comments Finished Lock In by John Scalzi . It's been a slow reading week for me, but once I picked that up it was amazing.

I think my favorite has got to be The Martian.

@Jane- I really like the Peter Grant series. I'm exited to read Foxglove Summer. The last book was really mean about leaving the reader hanging.

message 697: by Juliana (new)

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments Rose I have been hearing amazing things about Lock In. Glad you enjoyed it!
