Catherine | 5067 comments hey...quick question...I am currently reading The King's Curse (The Cousins' War, #6) by Philippa Gregory ...which has a BOM thread....but I think it was from last month(the thread is still up though...do I just put comments there?

Yeah. But you'll need to have some discussion going on for it to count as a buddy read. There's a thread to resurrect old buddy reads here to help you find others.

message 254: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 5067 comments so...I do it at this link, not at the BOM link?

message 255: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (ladykatala) | 5020 comments Catherine wrote: "so...I do it at this link, not at the BOM link?"

Post your comments on the book in the BOM link but use the other link to find other people to join your discussion.

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments Wow guys, we started with a good amount of points this weekend. Good job!!

Apoorv, thanks for updating the spreadsheet. :)

I'm almost finishing The Lies of Locke Lamora...

I'm also working on the Mods Automatic Update Spreadsheet, it's very good but I still have to figure out how to work the buddy read and Bom parts (update - ok everything is working!).
If some of you are curious about it, here are the link.

message 257: by Rose (new)

Rose | 633 comments That spreadsheet is super cool. It looks like they spent a lot of time on it.

Last night I finished India Black (296 pages)to detox from Steppenwolf confusion. I'd recommend it for a fast, fun read.

message 258: by Juliana (new)

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments Yes @Rose, they spent a lot of time in that spreadsheet.

And I finished my first book for the challenge. The Lies of Locke Lamora started ok for me but then became very enjoyable. It's a hit for those who likes a anti-hero kind of fantasy.

message 259: by Rose (new)

Rose | 633 comments I freaking love that book. The sequels (I think) are totally worth it. Some don't like the second, but it's hard to argue against BAMF lady pirates.

message 260: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
Juliana - I had the same problem. It took me til about 1/3 through then I was hooked. If a br is set up I'd join in for the 2nd.

Yuletide Tales A Festive Collective (The Indie Collaboration Presents) by Peter John Yuletide Tales A Festive Collective by Peter John

Unfortunately I only liked 3 of the stories in this book.

Apoorv Moghe (goodreadscomapoorv) | 1267 comments Jane, you are a book-eater ! :)

message 263: by Catherine (last edited Nov 10, 2014 02:20PM) (new)

Catherine | 5067 comments shall we call Jane "The Book-Eater" now? lol is that her new superhero status?!?!?! do we all get superhero status'/alter-egos?!?!?!

message 264: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 5067 comments Apoorv...did you check the SS super series challenge? We're sworn enemies in that challenge! You're on team 10 whilst I'm on team 11!!

message 265: by Apoorv (last edited Nov 10, 2014 04:33PM) (new)

Apoorv Moghe (goodreadscomapoorv) | 1267 comments Catherine, if we are tagging ourselves with a superhero status, I am sure, I will be the 'slow snail' of the group ! :P

.. and the SS Super Series Challenge is indeed heating up.. I am sure Team 10 will out-rank Team 11 :P :P *kidding*

It was the same for me. I like the 2nd one better. The 3rd one is on top of my TBR. Sooonnnnn....

message 268: by Catherine (last edited Nov 10, 2014 06:46PM) (new)

Catherine | 5067 comments so..Kelly..I seem to be discussing this with 2 team mates from River Sprites.....do I need to do anything other than post my comments in that thread? and 1 person from Misty Mountain Trolls :)

message 269: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (ladykatala) | 5020 comments I believe we're collecting a link to a good representative post in your buddy read. One of your posts where you're discussing the book. Just so we can go back and verify things if needed.

Catherine | 5067 comments Kelly wrote: "I believe we're collecting a link to a good representative post in your buddy read. One of your posts where you're discussing the book. Just so we can go back and verify things if needed."

starts (for me) at post 63 :)

message 271: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (ladykatala) | 5020 comments If you click on the "13 Minutes ago" type text on the right side of your post it will open a url that links to that post.

I'd just have your captain collect those for any buddy read points you want to claim.

message 272: by Juliana (new)

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments @Catherine and @Kelly, that was informative.

@Rose and @Esther, I did like it that the 1st book ended if a proper ending. For now it will stay as standalone for me. Maybe next year I come back to the series.

I've just added a url to the books read page so you can check I took part in the br properly!

Am 2/3 through an 800 page book now - hoping to have it finished by the end of the week

we are discussing The King's Curse (The Cousins' War, #6) by Philippa Gregory ...which is the conclusion to the Wars of the oes series :)

Great Sophie, thanks! A 800 pages in one week is impressive. For that long I usually take 2 weeks if the book really keeps my attention.

And thanks to you too @Catherine. I don't have read any of Philippa Gregory books yet, but I'm aiming too. Any suggestions?

message 277: by Jane (new)

Jane | 705 comments @ Apoorv and Catherine. I will be the book- eater for now but I am sure I am going to slow down at some point. lol
(also I do not do BOM or buddy reads so I need to get all my points from reading to keep up with the rest of you)

And I think team 1 in SS will beat both team 10 and 11 lol
(last round of SSS my team was last)

message 278: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 5067 comments I don't do buddy reads because I am a slow reader...and would probably make my buddy insane!! I don't do BOM during the month that it is BOM..haha..but I do read a lot of the monthly books eventualy...once in a while I even partcipate in the discussions too... this book has been on my tbr list for ages, and last onth I didn't get to it..so I'm doing it this month :) and we could use the points anyway...right? :)

message 279: by Esther (last edited Nov 11, 2014 04:14AM) (new)

Esther (nyctale) just finish my audiobook,
1st to Die. the 1st edition that come up is the paperback, 462 pages... so that what I am using to report if I understand correctly.

I post and will post again in the buddy read thread. But I am talking to myself so far...

.. off to hunt down the reporting thread...

message 280: by Jane (new)

Jane | 705 comments I have also finished my audiobook

Redwall (Redwall, #1) by Brian Jacques Redwall by Brian Jacques

I will also use first of the editions for pagenumbers. 352 pages

message 281: by Juliana (new)

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments This was the first time that I participated in a BOM discussion, and I liked. It was fun reading all the theories that were being plotted in others readers mind.

Girls, books read updated!

Here is our score, so far.

We are doing great! :D

message 282: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (ladykatala) | 5020 comments "Audio books and Large Print editions are allowed. (For page numbers, we will use the "default" GR book page numbers.)"

Both look fine to use for numbers. Redwall seems to have the audiobook as the default one but all the page numbers are in the same point range so it shouldn't matter what you choose.

message 283: by Jane (new)

Jane | 705 comments There is a small mistake in the spreadsheet: small because it means nothing to our points or anything.

After the book The Christmas Spirit it says (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel #6)
This should be with the book The Enchantress by Michael Scott

message 284: by Jane (new)

Jane | 705 comments I have finished

An Almost Perfect Christmas by Donna Fasano An Almost Perfect Christmas by Donna Fasano

This should be my last Christmas book for now but I will start reading them again around the 24th of November when the next Christmas challenge starts.

Thanks Jane. I've made the correction.

message 286: by Rose (new)

Rose | 633 comments I finished The Crossing Places. I had to, because I started it at night without realizing that it was a bit dark. I am going to enjoy discussing it, because I definitely had some mixed feelings about it.

message 287: by Apoorv (new)

Apoorv Moghe (goodreadscomapoorv) | 1267 comments I am going to do a buddy read for the first time as well in December. Hopefully I dont let my buddies down !

message 289: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 5067 comments out of curiosity...for participating in a BOM discyussion it's 20pts...do we get additional 30pts if discussing with another team? or do we only get 30pts total?

message 290: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (ladykatala) | 5020 comments Are you talking about an older BOM that you resurrected or a current one?

message 291: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 5067 comments the one that we are doing now...the October one.. The King's Curse (The Cousins' War, #6) by Philippa Gregory

message 292: by Catherine (last edited Nov 11, 2014 12:23PM) (new)

Catherine | 5067 comments haha!! I know I'm miss question here!! one more for you Kelly!! (no surprise there!)

if I just participate in a book discusion...say I already read the book...do we get points for that too? or do I have to re-read the book as well?

message 293: by Kelly (last edited Nov 11, 2014 12:26PM) (new)

Kelly (ladykatala) | 5020 comments As to the answer of BM/BOM the mod's are talking about it now so I'll get back to you (or they'll be a general announcement)

For your second question, you must re-read the book. The read-as date is the trigger for any points :) But if it's been 6 months since you first read it you can re-read for points.

message 294: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 5067 comments ok :) thanks...I'll try not to bombard you with too many questions! :)

They are fine in our own spreadsheet.

Jane, the spreadsheet didn't find the page number for these books. I'll have to insert manually.
Thanks for point it out.

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments Both spreadsheets are updated until here.

Team Spreadsheet

Mods Spreadsheet

@Apoorv and @Rose, now our spreadsheet automatically figures out where to put the 'x' for the page count's points.

Now I'm off reading... :)
