I'm slowly plodding my way through my books still. Not sure when I'll manage to finish them - currently on a nasty stretch at work which involves lots of changing sleep patterns.

Trying to work out if it's worth reading a few big books, or lots of little ones in the same time in terms of points for this... For now I'm going to carry on reading whatever I feel like.

I just finished Forward the Foundation by Asimov, and I enjoyed it a lot!

I'll catch up with the last messages to see what I missed.

@Sophie, I think that your reading will be more productive if you choose what you are in a mood to read. We love points, but I want us to love the challenge too, and this come from enjoying our conversations and the books we read for the challenge (in my humble opinion). So feel free to pursue your goal as you prefer. :)

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments And, in my forth message in a roll...

Have just finished 2 books. About to start The Maze Runner as a physical book (has a buddy read thread) and listening to The Crossing Places (current BOM).

Had a bad couple of days which were topped off by locking myself out of the flat without my kindle in my bag. This doesn't normally happen!

Might have made sitting in a coffee shop for an hour better. Instead I picked up a cheap book and spent some of the time on the phone to my parents and friends.

_______

So guys, I've submitted our current progress for the mods, and sometime soon they'll post an official rank.
This time synchronized updates will happen on a more infrequent basis, so for this first update our points was based on the books read until yesterday (15 Nov).

Any one curious to know how we did compared to the others teams? I'am. :)
______

For this week, and the next, if anyone has ideas for us to discuss or maybe some light game or whatever you guys would like to do here, lets us know.

Good Sunday to all!!

message 320: by Dragana (new)

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) Sorry for being quiet and being late with posting my update. Last couple of days were crazy. My mother came to visit us and that always sucks away all my free time.

I read 3 books last week.
King's (The King Trilogy, #1) by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff King for a Day (The King Trilogy, #2) by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff The Importance of Being Alice (Ainslie Brothers, #1) by Katie MacAlister
King's was intriguing uf. I had to read the sequel King for a Day right away, but it was not as good as the first book. All question were answered and then I was bored. :/
The Importance of Being Alice is cute contemporary romance with signature Katie MacAlister's humor.

Would be wonderful if they could!

Looking forward to seeing what happens with the ranking! Curious to see how we compare, given that I think we're racing through books.

Dragana - hope you enjoyed your mother's visit, even if it id take away your free time.

Trying to gear myself up for a night shift (failing at the moment) and then it's back to being awake only during normal people hours for the rest of the week.

The Importance of Being Alice looks interesting. Had forgotten the bad effect these team activities have on my TBR shelf.

Out of interest (nosiness) what is everyone's favourite spot to curl up with a book?

Esther (nyctale) Sophie wrote: "Out of interest (nosiness) what is everyone's favourite spot to curl up with a book? "

Considering it is snowing here, I will say, it is curled up on a sofa with a blanked and a cup of tea.

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) @Sophie It was nice. She did not come to visit for more than a month and now had a lot of new stuff to see. Her grandchild got 5 new teeth, learned to crawl, etc. :)

@Rose How did you like 'The Thousand Names'? It was my favorite fantasy last year.

My favorite spot to read is in armchair with hot chocolate or coffee in this pose

I really liked it. I'm sad the third one isn't out yet, so I can't just binge the entire series. Have you read the second?

I'm glad to hear it. No I did not, but soon I plan to make time for it.
If you like fantasy., my favorite for this year was Traitor's Blade. ;)

message 329: by Juliana (last edited Nov 16, 2014 01:52PM) (new)

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments @Dragana The Importance of Being Alice seems to have a cute premise, I didn't know this author but she have a lot of well ranked books.
My favorite contemporary romance series this last year starts with Maid for Love, I read the first three books, but this series has a lot of them.
And have mother's visit is great, a little time consuming but I love when my mom can visit me. :)

@Esther welcome to normal life again, rsrss. I'll start my first BR next Friday. I hope to have fun with it.
Here isn't snowing yet but same as you Esther I like to read curled up on my sofa, sometimes with a chocolate and sometimes with a cup of tea.

And, oh boy! @Sophie you are right, this challenges weights pretty bad in my TBR too. But I think that is part of the fun too, see what interesting books other people are reading.
Both Traitor's Blade and The Thousand Names looks really interesting.

@Rose, thanks for updating the spreadsheet. :)

Oh, I just finished reading P.S. I Love You, yes I was in a mood for a little crying. The book is good but so many details was altered in the movie (that I love and saw first) that I don't know which one I liked more.

Hi Sophie! You included The Maze Runner in your finished books on the Books Reads Discussion, but it isn't signalized as read on goodreads or it is in your challenge shelf. When you have a little time just check it for me. Thanks!

message 331: by Trinity (last edited Nov 16, 2014 02:52PM) (new)

Trinity Hi all! Sorry for being so quiet, I have been in such a reading slump but I just recently finished a novella and it pulled me out of the slump.

I am halfway through Breathless by Lurlene McDaniel I may be done with it a couple hours since my family is calling me over to watch a movie with them. I'm happy to be back! :D

message 332: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
Dragana - sounds like you had a lovely time.

Juliana - fixed that now. Finished it about lunch time and did everything other than mark it as read...

I read the book (PS, I Love You) about 10 years ago (wow that feels like a long time!) and loved it, though it made me cry while reading it on the train. As a result I didn't enjoy the film and put off watching it for a long time as I didn't think it'd live up to the book.

My favourite place to read is at my parents' house in their conservatory - lots of sun and warmth. One of my all time top spots was on a window seat on Vancouver Island looking out of the water - was so calm and peaceful.

Normal days though it comes down to the sofa or my bed curled up warm just before sleep.

message 333: by Trinity (last edited Nov 16, 2014 03:59PM) (new)

Trinity Sophie - Lying on my bed with be my preferred place to read because I am always there! Other days I would be on the sofa, on my mom's bed, my grandparent's bed, or on my porch.

Good to have you back Trinity!
Reading slumps sometimes happens to me too. Then I distract myself with something else for a few days and search a light book that really caught my attention.

message 336: by Dragana (new)

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) @Juliana Katie MacAlister has a specific humor but I love it. At one moment while I was reading in bed my husband woke up and asked me if I was ok. I was trying to contain my laughing to not wake up him or baby but I was shaking and tears were flowing from my eyes... Well at least the baby didn't wake up. :D
The scene in question was when Alice wakes up hungover and finds two fried eggs in her purse (last night in a restaurant saving them for later sounded like a good idea...).
I didn't read 'Maid with Love'. It does sound interesting.

As for 'P.S. I Love You' I watched the movie. Not sure if I want to read the book since I liked the movie and don't want to spoil my impression...

We are 17th out of 20 but 1st team is going to be tough as one person in their group basically scored our points all by herself. Quite incredibly.

message 339: by Rose (new)

In the master spreadsheet from the mods they've missed the points we should have got from the buddy read for Code Name Verity. Doesn't make huge difference to the overall ranking, but still...

Trinity I have finally finished updated things on goodreads! I came home from school a few hours ago because I was feeling ill, once I took a nap I got on the computer and was able to organize myself again! Now to get started on homework >.<

Wow! Some of these people are reading machines!

@Juliana: I have signed up for yet ANOTHER buddy read for Throne of Glass on the 20th of this month :)
