Well, the only big word that springs to mind is Schadenfreude. Not that I'm feeling much Schadenfreude, mind you. Just the commonplace feeling that comes from knowing that one is not the only married man in the world.

I should be able to nag as well as Cartoon's wife. My husband also needs to get his bupkis off the computer and do the dishes. And no, I don't need to get off the computer. I cooked the dinner. And did the laundry. And biked 50 miles, but so did he, so that doesn't count.

Nice use of brob-ding-dang-donian bupkis, by the way.

Pseudonymous d'Elder | 205 comments Since we are talking about the use of three-dollar words, has anyone else noticed that the word Zeitgeist has become part of the Zeitgeist recently? It seems that whenever I turn on TV or radio or read newspapers, magazines or blogs that some pundit or celebrity is talking about the Zeitgest, often in reference to some Kardashian's posterior.

I'll bet we hear the word zeitgeist at least once during tonight's Oscar ceremonies. Probably witness a lot of conspicuous schadenfreude aimed at some trophy-less nominees walking home, legerdemain.

Unlike a lot of the art I post here, I really love this painting. The subject, the colors, the textures. I especially love the affectionately bemused look on the man's face as he gazes at his two companions. Then again, maybe he's planning to beat them to death with a stick and roast them on a spit. Could go either way . . .

Beautiful painting, Melki. The man's love of the dogs is so evident. It made it tough to think of a gag. His paintings are amazing. I had to google further and now I'll leave a good link with some large files showing great detail;

Jean Leon Gerome, 1875

The man and horse in the desert, and some others, illustrate his love of animals and the relationship between man and animal.

Thanks Melki!
