Hi Jill, I'd recommend this. I got a lot of info and enjoyed the author's style and writing with good sources.
Singapore Burning: Heroism And Surrender In World War II by Colin Smith

Geevee's recommendation is spot on Jill, its an excellent account. One other book to consider is:
The Battle for Singapore: The True Story of the Greatest Catastrophe of World War II by Peter Thompson

Maybe the library might have copies of these books:
(no cover)Singapore 1942: Britain's Greatest Defeat by Alan Warren
Descent Into Hell - The Fall of Singapore - Pudu and Changi - the Thai Burma Railway by Peter Brune

My library is very successful at finding books through inter-library loan, at no cost to me and usually not to the libraries except for postage.

I was looking up a few. Aussie Rick, which of these did you like more?

or

I think out of those two I preferred Andrew Wheatcroft's book, although I read it some time back I think it was the more extensive account.

Thanks, Aussie Rick!

Glad you asked Bou :)
I found this book to be a very good introduction to the subject, informative and very easy to read:
Alexander the Great by Philip Freeman
This is the latest book I read on Alexander the Great, also a pretty good account:
Alexander the Great: His Life and His Mysterious Death by Anthony Everitt

Some of the first books I read on Alexander the Great were these two titles:
Alexander the Great by Robin Lane Fox
Alexander of Macedon, 356-323 B.C. by Peter Green

A few more older titles that I am yet to read:
The Genius of Alexander the Great by N.G.L. Hammond
Alexander the Great: King, Commander and Statesman by N.G.L. Hammond
Alexander by Theodore Ayrault Dodge

Plus I am waiting for this book to be published which should make for excellent reading:
Philip and Alexander by Adrian Goldsworthy

You could go back to some of the very early sources as well if it interests you:
The Life of Alexander the Great by Arrian
The Landmark Arrian: The Campaigns of Alexander by Arrian

I have two books in mind that may help, it would be worth your while to further investigate if these two books cover what you need:
The Glorious Cause: The American Revolution, 1763-1789 by Robert Middlekauff
1776 by David McCullough

Two books off the top of my head:
The Yom Kippur War: The Epic Encounter That Transformed the Middle East by Abraham Rabinovich
Eighteen Days in October: The Yom Kippur War and How It Created the Modern Middle East by Uri Kaufman
Two books off the top of my head:

It's a pretty good account so I hope you find it as interesting as I did!
