This has always been one of my favourite stories regarding Alexander the Great. This account is in regards to Alexander's now lost tomb in Alexandria:
"Caesar was followed later by Octavian, as recounted by two of the classical writers. Suetonius relates that:
About this time he [Octavian] had the sarcophagus and body of Alexander the Great brought forth from its shrine, and after gazing on it, showed his respect by placing upon it a golden crown and strewing it with flowers; and being then asked whether he wished to see the tomb of the Ptolemies as well, he replied, 'My wish was to see a king, not corpses'."

"It was midnight when we arrived at the scene, and the guide pointed out to me the end of the rope, which dangled sheer down the face of a cliff. Listening, we could hear the robbers actually at work, so I first severed their rope, thereby cutting off their means of escape, and then, making secure a good stout rope of my own, I lowered myself down the cliff. Shinning down a rope at midnight, into a nestful of industrious tomb-robbers, is a pastime which at least does not lack excitement."
