Esther (nyctale) I have read everything but the last one. I will be lurking. :)

Yayy!!!! This is the best fantasy series I've ever read. I love it so much. Can't wait to re-read.

message 10: by Justin (new)

Justin (rockstarintraining) oh man... so many books to read in November... and somehow I missed this one...

ah, it's late in the month... I would love to read along.

Just based on your comment, I need to read this. :) My boyfriend claims that Terry Pratchet's disc world books are the best fantasy series. I'd love to stick it to him.. :) Hopefully I can snag this from the library.

Disk world???? No way that's the best! Robert Jordan can take Terry Pratchet any day or any age :)

message 13: by Justin (new)

Justin (rockstarintraining) I have read a little Discworld. Never read The Wheel of Time, but it's hard to believe is inferior to the Discworld stuff. Then you have Tolkien, Rothfuss, Martin, etc. Let the great fantasy author smackdown begin!

I don't know, Pratchett is pretty good and i love the humor, dry wit, and sarcasm. Of course, you cant go in comparing. Have to evaluate on their own merit. I'm sure Jordan has his own redeeming qualities.

I wonder if we could turn that into a reading challenge. Not sure how but that's a great tag line. :) Although I will admit, I have not heard of Rothfuss, I'll have to check her?Him? out.

message 16: by Justin (new)

Justin (rockstarintraining) Him. Patrick Rothfuss. The Name of the Wind. Stop what you're doing and read it immediately. Best fantasy book I've read in a long time.

message 17: by Wishbear (new)

Wishbear | 393 comments I'm sorry, I'm reading How to be a Pirate by Cressida Cowell. (How to Train a Dragon #2) Now THAT's some fantasy. How to Be a Pirate (How to Train Your Dragon, #2) by Cressida Cowell

I will definitely add The Name of the Wind to my list and get to it within 3 months though.

message 18: by Justin (new)

Justin (rockstarintraining) Good move. It's the first of a trilogy. I haven't read the second book yet since I have found myself with a ton if books to read by the end of the year.

Hi Mollie. I've already read the first 5 in this series and loving every one of them. They're just great fast and easy reads.

message 20: by Zara's Retreat (new)

Zara's Retreat I have the last book in the 'wheel of time' series even though I haven't read the first 13!!

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

The third book in the WoT is my favorite, but all of them are so intricate...I just love them. I think a lot of people stop loving them after a couple in because there are just so many characters- but to me that's what makes it so amazing!

message 22: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (govmarley) | 3150 comments I have the first 10 books in this series on my Nook but haven't started them yet. I may jump in to discuss.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

Before we start, I want to tell you that my favorite character when I only read the first book was Nynaeve, and that she stayed my favorite character throughout the entire series. That has never happened to me before!

I'm enjoying them, too. They are so very, very different from the movies. I was quite surprised although I don't know why. I do like the light-hearted quick read after slogging through a mammoth tomb

Amanda (daughterofoak) | 3473 comments I've never read these books even though I bought the series from a Friends of the Library book sale. I'm still searching for book #12 though :).
I'll try to join in too.

Sophie wrote: "I've got through to about book 5. Love the series so far, though my head does begin to spin with all the characters!"

The truth is...it just gets more and more confusing lol Especially because some of the characters start having very similar names. But it is so worth it. I loved every second of this series. It was the first series (yes even including HP) that made me really sad for its end.

message 29: by Sanskriti (new)

Sanskriti Nagar | 318 comments I finished reading The Eye of the World. Can't wait for you guys to get your copies and get started. You guys will surely enjoy it.

I love Nynaeve too! She's consistently been a favorite as I've read the books too

message 31: by Erin (new)

Erin | 376 comments I've read books 1-7 and New Spring and am currently reading tor.com's rereads for book 6 and 7 since it's been so long so I can pick back up at book 8 and finish off the series. So once the buddy read has caught up to there I'll join in for sure. I'll probably lurk until then though

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

I love this series more than I can say and re-reading it is going to be a dream.

message 33: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 2143 comments I'd like to join in. I read The Eye of the World a couple of years ago but didn't continue with the series even though I liked it. So I would like to reread it and then continue on.

Princess Godoy (bookishcess) I think will prefer the chapter breakdown :)

message 36: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 2143 comments Since the book is so big, I'd prefer a chapter breakdown too.

Book: The Eye of the World - prologue to chapter to 4
ᴥᴥᴥᴥᴥ

I just finished chapter 4 (already behind my own schedule) and I'm enjoying the writing so far.
The Prologue left me curious about what happened before that point, and I was hooked by the first paragrapher of chapter 1.

(view spoiler)

I'm still getting used to the different names and places, and I'm consulting a lot the maps to get more familiarized with the world.
Any one else like maps in fantasy books?

(view spoiler)

message 44: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 2143 comments I'm on chapter 5. I've read this book before but it's been four years so I don't remember a lot, but bits and pieces are coming back. I agree that the names take some getting used to and I find maps helpful too in getting the places straight. I agree that the mood is set even from the very beginning. (view spoiler)

Sanskriti Nagar | 318 comments I like having maps in fantasy books. Seeing how the world has been created entirely from the author's imagination, it's good to have the places sketched out, to see how distant places are, and thus, the protagonist's journey... Maps always help aid my imagination and involve me deeper in the author's created world.
