Anna Fox lives alone—a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times . . . and spying on her neighbors.

Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, a mother, their teenage son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn’t, her world begins to crumble—and its shocking secrets are laid bare.

What is real? What is imagined? Who is in danger? Who is in control? In this diabolically gripping thriller, no one—and nothing—is what it seems.

Things are still a little confusing as to right now but it's definitely interesting to follow Annie's mental health battle and her struggle to make human connections while avoiding interactions to a certain degree.

I adore an unreliable narrator! The uncertainty just makes things so much more interesting. Anna definitely is not reliable and quite hypocritical even.

Susan Walter | 1 comments The twist got me. Was totally gob-smacked. This is the book that made me want to write thrillers. Of course the clues were there but the characters were so layered I missed it! Brilliant debut novel. For those who have read, did you watch the movie, too? How do they compare?

To be honest, I can't really agree on the fact that the clues were there... (view spoiler)

I haven't seen the movie but I would expect it to be as captivating as the novel.

I agree, it felt like the ending was lackluster as well, although I quite enjoyed the progression of the plot!
