I chose this book because it is a literary classic. I thought it would make a strong impression to start the school year with a challenging book.

I really enjoyed this novel, aside from the fact that It was difficult to understand what some of the dialogue meant since it was written such a long time ago. I found love, annoyance, loyalty, hope, and judgment in this book. I really liked the character Elizabeth and her quick wit, dedication, and responses to her love advancements were oddly relatable and relevant. I loved being able to delve into and analyze complex relationship dynamics.

Marriage, to who, and for what reason. This is the shortest summary of Pride and Prejudice.

A more in-depth summary is as follows. Mrs. Bennet wants her daughters to get married. The proud Mr. Darcy says Elizabeth is "tolerable" but not attractive enough to make him want to dance with her. He is very 'pride'ful and she develops a 'prejudice' against him. Their dynamic changes as they learn more about each other. Darcy began to have feelings for Elizabeth even though she was below his social and economic status. Mr. Wickham’s spread untrue accusations about Darcy which Elizabeth believed. So she misunderstood him a lot. Not until Elizabeth reads a letter written by Darcy’s did she understand Darcy's action and the misunderstanding. Elizabeth was unique in that she wanted to marry for love, not for money and questioned who she could love and why. Jane and Mr. Bingley also had some difficulties. A lot of these difficulties were because of Mrs. Bingley's attitude towards Jane.

I recommend this to anyone who has an interest in classic literature or who wants to challenge their reading skills with words from another time. If you enjoy a story with twists and turns, romance (that isn't cringe-worthy sweet), or commentary on the expectations and social rules of a particular time period, you will enjoy this story.
