SO excited to finish this up! I will start reading tomorrow--this book is HUGE! :D

Okay. I didn't end up reading yesterday when I got home. I'm on page 61; just finished cleaning up our apartment and am going to sit down right now and keep on reading! :)

Pages 1-76 (random thoughts/questions):

--I really love how all of these books have ended...and BEGUN...on uncertain ground/in the middle of a struggle. There's no backstory, there's no buildup of anticipation before catching up to where we left off. It's just that--they end, and begin, in the middle.
--I really just don't know what I feel about knowing the animals thoughts. I mean, don't get me wrong, I HATE it when animals get hurt as it is, especially in books when there doesn't seem to be a purpose to it...but when you add in the fact that animals can talk/respond/react to us, it's SO MUCH HARDER to read about them being wounded. Probably the reason I'm still so angry about Manchee.
--Oh no. Oh no. Oh no!
--I'm glad that the newcomers, at least, still have their heads set right! Nobody's thinking anymore, seems like...everyone's just reacting and acting. Which is great for the book, but doesn't make for good decision making. Except they haven't REALLY noticed about the Noise, yet...because obviously there's only one guy nearby...and he hasn't been there long enough to GET his Noise. That...will be an interesting reckoning when it happens.
--So. Many. Spackle. That's just terrifying!
--And he's got his Noise. Oh boy. Here we go.
--OH NO! OH, THAT is just way too cool! Okay, so in book one, we got Todd's POV. Book two, we had Todd and Viola. And now. Book three. We have a third POV. And it isn't what I was expecting, but it's AWESOME and I dig it.

Pages 77-204 (random thoughts/questions):

--The bands aren't working on the women; seems all of them have, in some form or another, an infection. Makes me wonder why--is it because they're human, not animal, or is it due to something else? The Returned (the lone Spackle who survived the town) also seems to be having trouble with his, though not so much as the women. His just won't stop bleeding, and still hurts.
--Viola fired the missile to save Todd. Or, rather, because she thought Todd was dead and she wanted revenge. She asks a good question: if they're willing to do THAT for each other, how far are they ready to go? And is that a good thing...or a bad one?
--Poor Angharrad. I feel so so sorry for that horse; she's obviously hurting and traumatized.
--Todd's new silence. I don't like it. Is it the MAYOR's doing...or is it really Todd's, like the Mayor claims? Because the Mayor can control people's minds; what's to say he isn't controlling Todd's, to make it quieter?
--And Todd has controlled another. Only for a moment, only the once...but he did it. How will that new ability come into play in the future.
--Where are all the Spackle getting into town at? They're never seen; they're never heard. They're just THERE.
--Also, this brings up another question: The Sky obviously has an outside source. A man, I'm assuming, or a woman keeping him in the loop. But...who? And why? What's the endgame with him?

--Mistress Coyle and President Prentiss have "agreed" to work together, but right now all I see are the two of them continuing their silent battle of wits and strength by one-upping and out-doing the other. It isn't working together if you're not really seeking peace, and I don't think they're going to get themselves any closer to what they each CLAIM to want--they just want to better their own positions before sending out the final blow and taking hold of total control.
--There's still so much distance between Viola and Todd; I don't like it.
--It's Ben! I thought Ben was dead! Of course, Ben isn't in the right hands; he's in Spackle hands, read: The Returned's hands...and The Returned definitely DOES NOT want what everyone else keeps claiming they want. The Returned does not want peace. The Returned wants death. And Todd's pain.
--It's interesting to me how SILENT everyone is in this last book. Like...in the first book, we had Noise EVERYWHERE. Information, all the time, non-stop. But now...not so much. I wonder if Patrick Ness planned this purposely, to show something. Because before, people were still (sort of) working together. Before, information was being shared, thoughts weren't being so closely guarded; there really weren't any secrets. But now, as the battle draws to a close/reckoning...secrets seem to mean EVERYTHING. And everybody has them. Does that mean that information as we used to know it...really wasn't information at all? In this world, is the only information worth knowing the kind nobody WANTS you to know? Something to think on.

--And so the truth comes out. I KNEW the President (Mayor?) had something up his sleeve when he demanded everybody part ways. I knew it would have something to do with Todd...and the supposed snub the President believes he was just given with Ben's return. But just how far is he willing to go now? He already killed one son; what's he willing to do to Todd, to get his way?
