Rachael Hanakowski (rachaelhanakowski) | 51 comments Has anyone else noticed that in the past few months it appears Emma has been less involved in OSS? She hasn't done a video interview since Reni Lodge or introduced a book. I wonder why.

Elke Birngruber | 20 comments i believe she is very much concerned with feminism and sustainability.
she does not shoot any movies right now either.

I think she will appears until the Little Woman Premiere ;)

Sophie H | 9 comments I know this question wasn’t directed towards me specifically, but I do think that a majority of the people on this site do believe in feminism.

It’ll also do good to remember that we shouldn’t shame anyone for joining because of their admiration towards Emma Watson. Whether people want to join to read or just to support everyone is trying to do their part.

I second that.

K (katetakate) I have noticed too Rachael and I’m mildly curious as to what direction this group takes in the coming months especially as I’ve noticed some months there’s been virtually no discussion about the book (I’m currently reading Beloved so will try to contribute to the threads when I’m finished).
I don’t think there’s any issue with raising this query in the non-judgemental way you did.

There actually was a discussion about that on OSS way back when it happened. In the end, the general consensus dismissed claims that it was anti-feminist.

It may be disappointing that we don't hear more from Emma. But from the perspective of the world as a whole, my sense is that she can make a greater difference through her work with the U.N. or by supporting films that help raise consciousness.

I cannot imagine the weight of living in the public eye, having every word, wardrobe choice, and acquaintance critiqued. I would imagine taking a break from that periodically would be a healthy thing to do.

Emma(our Founder) wrote this very important article in august : https://www.theguardian.com/global-de... . I don't know what she is doing right now but I think she prepares her next awesome feminist action.

Clara Atwood | 13 comments When was the last time Emma participated in our discussions anyway. I was hoping that as the founder of OSS she would be more involved in our book discussions and even be the one to initiate them. Anyway, I would really like to hear her opinion on Beloved’s storyline and the themes/topics involved in the novel.

Divya Khare (animperfectbooknerd) | 2 comments Exactly ! It is a little disappointing that she doesn’t participates much in the group.

Well, I mean, of course she doesn't always have to be the one initiating our discussions though it would be nice if she could do so. Besides, I know that she's been really busy, working to promote gender equality, and I really support what she's doing. In fact, it is the reason why I'd joined this book club. But, even if she doesn't have the time to start a new discussion, I think that it would be wonderful if she could just participate by commenting on some of our posts.

Peter | 65 comments Can you message Emma on Facebook or other social media?

message 18: by Florian (new)

Florian (laughingflow) | 241 comments Hello Clara, I believe I understand your point and in a perfect world I would second what you say because you are right.
You probably do not put her on a pedestal but many people do so. Many people try to know what a famous person does while the famous person wants privacy and a "normal" life. After all there are only humans :)
I might be wrong but I believe if she was showing up here in OSS to add inputs in discussions the forum could be overwhelmed by many people who would try to get in touch with her just because she is famous and their idole. That's probably what happens on Twitter or Instagram. And if it was happening, I would pity the moderators because they would have a tremendous work, I wish that to no one.
I suppose it is the curse of fame, you cannot do whatever you want because of what people would do, think or try to know. Such handcuffs :(

But I hear you Clara, I would love everyone here to be considered as member and only a member no matter their job, their fame or involvement in the moderation.
