All the Light We Cannot See

Why is this book so suspenseful?

It felt manipulative and full of "writers tricks".The short chapters were a failed cheap shot for a book that took ten years to write. A great writer could do better. Even his "beautiful sentences" felt overly crafted with gratuitous beautiful adjectives falling on the wrong sentence. But hey…
Readers are as varied and different as writers, and every other species in the world. There is no right or wrong; there are opinions. I was shocked at my own disappointment but glad that you and most everyone else loved it.

I thought it was a light drama and it may sound lame but I thought it was INTERESTING more than anything else - as I know very little of WWII.
However I did find it moving in parts.
I like books with short chapters. They always seem easier to read to me.
