I just finished reading a couple 800+ pagers and need a break from the two series I'm re-reading.

Can anyone recommend some good books on the short side (under 400pgs)? I need some quicker reads to sprinkle between the door stoppers!

What do you enjoy reading (besides something short)? Realistic, fantasy, suspense, mystery, romance? Can you mention a book or two you liked so as to give better guidance?

Just had a quick look through your Want-to-Read. From those books, I'd recommend The Martian, A Natural History of Dragons, Born a Crime and The Giver. :)

Most of the above (no romance for me!) I'm not too picky when it come to genre. 🙂

Ahh ok! Literally any one of those 4 will do, so thanks for pointing them out. I probably should work from my tbr after all!

I second The Giver. Also, I don't know whether you like reading plays, but they're quick reads. I recommend The Importance of Being Earnest--hilarious and clever.

I LOVED The Importance of Being Earnest movie! I saw it years ago. Definitely adding that to my tbr!

Try I'll Be There, by Holly Goldberg Sloan, or her book Counting by 7s. Both are realistic fiction, and have great characters and stories and a lot of humor.

Have you read The Queen's Thief series, by Megan Whalen Turner? I know you're looking for short books, and these are fairly modest in length, but they ARE a series. A fabulous, not-to-be-missed series.

Other super short books (also in a series) are the Wayward Children books by Seanan McGuire. They are novella-length (129 pages or so each), but really delightful, creepy, offbeat, wonderful.

And chiming in on the former posts, I adored Born A Crime (although I would recommend the audio version because it's narrated by the author and he does all the voices and dialects superbly), but I hated The Giver. So many dystopias out there more worth your time, I wouldn't bother.

A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray. I don't actually know how long it is, but I got through it very quickly. Also We Were Liars by E. Lockhart.
