Cheryl (cherylllr) I've enjoyed lots of classics (The House of Arden, Winterbound, Ruth Chew's witch stories), but there's one book in particular I want to recommend to all of you, especially those of you who actually do get to guide children's learning.

She's Wearing a Dead Bird on Her Head! is about the founding of the Audubon Society, by two women who loved birds, not fashion. It's a brief picture-book, but not for toddlers.

Evelyne Holingue (evelyne_holingue) | 26 comments I have absolutely loved She's Wearing a Dead Bird on Her Head. It's a great picture book and as you say it is for older readers. I found the title really great. Good pic for kids who want to know more about the early days of the Audubon Society. I also liked to see that some women had also thought beyond fashion.
