message 702: by Petra (new)

Petra I'm trying to finish both Great Expectations and A Tale of Two Cities (audio). Both are really good and very different in writing style.
I still hope to read Blue Shoes and Happiness (if the Library gets it in for me shortly) before the end of the Challenge but this one is dubious.
I think that may be all I'll have time for this Challenge but we'll see. There are so many great tasks that I couldn't get to.....lots of good books to find new tasks for in the coming Challenge, if I can slip them in.

message 703: by Kim D (new)

Kim D (kdimattia) | 195 comments I'm reading Push right now. And I still want to read Catching Fire and Red, White, and Brew: An American Beer Odyssey before the challenge ends. It's going to be tough, I have too much going on!

message 704: by Donna Jo (new)

Donna Jo Atwood | 2412 comments I was hoping to read The Outcast by Sadie Jones but I don't think it'll come in from the library for me by the end of the month--my name is too far down on the wait list. Guess I'll need to pick up White Teeth by Zadie Smith instead.
I have some stuff I've been saving up for between challenges to read, so may get to that this week too.

Jackie | 125 comments You know what else would be good for a fictional family saga? Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews. Anyone read it? One of my favorites!

Terri (terrisa-uk) | 222 comments I am going to make a start on the summer challenge with Mrs Lincoln ... it's a brick, and I definitely won't get more than half-way by the first!

Paula (paula05) | 11 comments Pollyanna wrote: "I'm reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo at the moment, it's taking me quite a long time to read, and the business part of the book is quite dull."

I agree with your take on it. I thought it took a long time for me to get through the beginning and the ending of the book. That's why I think I liked the 2nd book moreso then this one.

The queue at my library for The Help was 450 when I got on the list! I couldn't believe it. I got my copy in just over three months, though, so apparently the library here owns quite a few copies.

I did buy The Help and plan to read it for the Summer Challenge. The local library has 22 regular copies, 5 large type copies, 5 audio CD sets and an online ebook copy with a total now of 132 people waiting.

I do wonder why the library makes only some popular books Express Readers???

message 721: by Aleksandra (new)

Aleksandra (aleksandrakonwa) | 752 comments I start on summer challenge with "The queen`s fool" by Philippa Gregory and I enjoy it so much.

message 722: by Paula (new)

Paula (paula05) | 11 comments I recommend buying THE HELP. I liked it that much. I think once you read it, you'd recommend it to others, perhaps re-read it, etc.

message 730: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Dreibelbeis (nicoledreibelbeis) | 132 comments Working on The Red Pyramidand re-reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Really enjoying The Red Pyramid- it definitely has the feel of the Percy Jackson series or the 39 clues books Riordan also wrote, but it is definitely unique. I have always found Egyptology to be really interesting so I'm enjoying learning about all the different gods/goddesses of ancient Egypt.

message 731: by Louvaine (new)

Louvaine | 98 comments I'm reading The Hunger Games (Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins and ABC Murders (The Agatha Christie Mystery Collection) by Agatha Christie for this challenge, and finishing up Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell and Number the Stars Library Edition by Lois Lowry for the Spring challenge. I stumbled across this in the library by accident. But was glad it fit in. I just started it but it seems well written.

message 738: by Petra (last edited Jun 07, 2010 08:19PM) (new)

Petra I'm currently reading Come, Thou Tortoise, a humerous, punny book of a young woman's look back to her childhood and her grief over her father's death, and The Preservationist, a retelling of Noah & the Ark as only David Maine can tell it.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3041 comments I finished Baking Cakes in Kigali and now I am starting "The Vile Village"

Juniper (jooniperd) I am currently reading In Cold Blood by Truman Capote for task 10.7 - the truth.

message 743: by Asho (new)

Asho | 181 comments I'm reading A Farewell to Arms. This is only the second time I've ever read Hemingway and the first time I've ever read one of his novels willingly (I read In Our Time for a class once a long time ago). So far I'm enjoying it more than I expected to, since I sort of forced myself to read it. 200+ books were added to my already large collection when my fiance and I moved in together, so this challenge I'm determined to read some of the books in our apartment that I've never read rather than running to the library all the time.

message 744: by Donna Jo (new)

Donna Jo Atwood | 2412 comments I am finishing up The ABC Murdersand tackling The Lacuna yet again--I haven't been able to get into that book.

That's what I have slated for that task as well - I can't believe I haven't read it yet!

Earlier today I finished Beatrice and Virgil by Yann Martel. Great book. Now I'm reading and enjoying Madame Bovary.

message 750: by Tina (new)

Tina (garcia02) I am struggling to read Cranberry Queen by Kathleen De Marco and will soon be starting (a classic) The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Cranberry Queen has proved to be a very difficult book to read. Hopefully it will get better.
