chucklesthescot Finally finished Stephen King's 'IT' so I can move on to another task and start reading Infidel which just came to me through bookcrossing!

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3041 comments I loved Infidel.

message 1103: by Petra (new)

Petra I'm still listening to The 19th Wife. It's really interesting. Two parallel stories, one from the late 1800s and one in present time, both featuring a 19th wife.
Yesterday, I finished reading The Wives of Henry Oades, which I didn't really like. Too choppy, reactions were unbelievable, too many unneeded details (such as using chamber pots...a lot....and finding them in used condition) and not enough needed details.
This morning I started reading Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers. Too early yet to say much about it but it's interesting.

★Meghan★ (starinheaven) | 815 comments Petra: What task are you using The 19th Wife for? I really want to read that book.

I just am about to start Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire for 30.7b and need to finish Dracula for 30.7a (about 1/2 way through and gave up for awhile to do some group reads) and also still reading Nevermore for 15.6

Petra ★Meghan★ wrote: "Petra: What task are you using The 19th Wife for? I really want to read that book..."

Meghan, I'm reading it for Task 10.3 (Freedom!). It was approved in the Task thread for "crusade to end polygamy in the United States".
It's very good. There are so many different angles to the story: memoirs, diaries, wikipedia, the present-day story of the 19th wife (as told by her son). I'm really enjoying it.

Dee (austhokie) | 8954 comments I need to tackle the various library books that I have out for the challenges, because I've already renewed a couple of them twice...lol!

I have:
Three Bags Full and Dead Canaries Don't Sing for the Mysteries and Animals Task

Longitude: The True Story of a Lone Genius Who Solved the Greatest Scientific Problem of his Time and The Kid Who Climbed Everest: The Incredible Story of a 23-Year-Old's Summit of Mt. Everest for the Exploration Task

The Wild Irish: A Novel of Elizabeth I and the Pirate O'Malley for the Musical Challenge

The Crucible for the Read a Play...so my reading will be those for the next week or so

message 1117: by Petra (new)

Petra Enjoy The Crucible, Dee. It's quite powerful. It must have been scary living in Salem during those times.

I have the same problem.....6 of my Library Requests (some have been on request since the beginning of this Challenge) all came in together a couple days ago....and I'm in the middle of another book already!!

message 1118: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8954 comments thanks!! it will be one of the later ones I read, since I just got it the other day...lol! I figure 2 12 hour shifts over the weekend at work...should be able to get some reading done

message 1119: by Amanda B. (new)

Amanda B. | 112 comments Seems like I'll never finish Shark Dialoguesalmost halfway through it. It sounded really interesting when I was looking for a book based in Hawaii, its not bad but I just can't get into it. Listening to The Time Traveler's Wife and LOVING IT! I wish I would have read it instead of listen cuz I'm sure I would have devoured it by now, but I get only an hour each day during my commute to and from work. I've never really listed to a book before and am enjoying getting some "reading time" done on my drive to and from work :)

message 1120: by Asho (new)

Asho | 181 comments I'm reading Stephen King's Wizard and Glass. I'm trying to fit several of the Dark Tower books into this season's challenge because my fiance and I made a deal that he would read the Harry Potter series if I would read the Dark Tower series. We set our wedding day as the deadline for finishing the books. He finished all of the Harry Potter books months ago, so I need to get with the program! I still have 3 and a half books to finish before January (which is fine, but I have to work them in between other things I want to read. :-))
I had never read many Stephen King books, but this series has grown on me.

message 1121: by Sue (new)

Sue (suetinge) | 1579 comments I'm still working on The Raven in the Foregate: The Twelfth Chronicle of Brother Cadfael and just started All Creatures Great and Small which is due back to the library on Wed.

chucklesthescot These last 5 days have been a frenzy of reading! I finished Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali for task 10.3 and The End of Harry Potter? by David Langford for task 20.8. Not sure what to read next...

message 1123: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8954 comments I have 2 30-point challenges, where I have read 1 book and not the other, so those 2 are my first goal for the weekend:
The Kid Who Climbed Everest: The Incredible Story of a 23-Year-Old's Summit of Mt. Everest for Kiri's Task and Friday Night Bites for the Smile Task (the character on the cover is smile/smirking)

I started Linger for Lisa's task. Has anyone else come across books with colored text? Linger is set in green Garamond. It is a little hard to read- especially outside in the sun. Earlier this challenge I read another book with purple text- but that was an art book and I thought it was part of the presentation.

message 1129: by Amanda B. (new)

Amanda B. | 112 comments I read another short story in Just After Sunset and started the book I won on off goodreadsPlaya Perdida So far I'm liking this book after 3 chapters, I think this will be a good one!

message 1132: by Donna Jo (new)

Donna Jo Atwood | 2412 comments I am reading The Routes of Man: How Roads Are Changing the World, and the Way We Live Today. I don't have a task listed for it, but I was intriqued--and it's due back at the library soon.

message 1133: by Petra (new)

Petra I'm reading Doctor Zhivago for Task 20.2, Option C (Book with the same setting as a Musical). My chosen musical is Fiddler On The Roof, which is set in Revolutionary Russia.
This morning I started listening to The Magician's Nephew for Task 15.1 (New Horizons). It's on the Christianity shelf, which is outside my comfort zone. So far, this is a fun story.

I've got to decide which task to assign Northanger Abbey to. It fits into 4 tasks and I can't post any finished tasks until I decide about it first. It's a cascading effect.

message 1134: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8954 comments i'm reading Lover Enshrined (I glad my mother didn't name me Cormia)...also The Story of Danny Dunn (continental divide) and Three Bags Full (the first of the animals and mysteries)...I should also finish up The Kitchen Witch (Accidental Witch Trilogy, #1) tonight which is the second book i'm using for the In and Out task

Amanda B. | 112 comments I don't know where to go next. I'm not as fast a reader as some/most of the group members so now my strategy I was on is moot because if I continue on my current path that is all I'm going to be able to read for the fall challenge. So I wanted to ask ya'll which book do you recommend me reading next. You can either reply or send me a message. Also the following books I tagged to listen to in the car which one should I get first? Jane Eyre
Confessions of a Shopaholic
Beloved
The Bridges of Madison County or
Pagan Babies

The link to my speadsheet is: https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?k...

Thanks, I just wanted to ask some avid readers which book(s) they recommend are good to read next! Thanks!
P.s. feel free to add me a friend as well ;)

message 1140: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8954 comments I enjoyed Jane Eyre (its one of the few classics that I did, but its long) - could never get into the shopaholic series...sorry, can't be much more help!

Of your list above I would say...Beloved and let me know what you think. I really want to read this book.

"Beloved" is a haunting and beautifully written book. It's definitely in my top 20 list.

I still have 119 pages left of Playa Perdida and still enjoying it. My goal was to have it finished by tomorrow, but I didn't get much reading time yesterday or today so hopefully I can still meet that goal. Thank you to all that gave me suggestions I really appreciate it! Kelly, I'll check out Beloved audio book next! :)
