I'm on hold for this book... I will be waiting for 11 weeks... ugh!

Sarah Rigg | 140 comments I read this book in 2018 and gave it 5 stars. It was among my favorite nonfiction reads for the year.

My GR review of this says, in part: " I really liked reading about the roots of BLM and particularly about how active women and LGBTQ folks were in forming it and protesting for the lives of black men and women to matter to society. Highly recommended."

I had no idea what this book would be about before I started it. I thought it might be about Islamic-Americans. However, when I started reading it and found out it was about a black women and her and her friends and families struggles in America I was surprised. She is totally right though. They are being treated like terrorists. I just never made the connection before, so I am so glad that I read this book and it educated me on something I definitely should open my eyes to.

Megan | 119 comments I definitely found this extremely eye opening as well, and learned a lot about how terribly black people are treated in America. I didn't realize how bad the repercussions of Reagan's war on drugs and the increased militarization of police forces after 9-11, were for African Americans. It's very disturbing that we treat our own citizens like terrorists.
