There, with three other girls--Alex, Grace, and Robin--the five of them delve into the school's long-buried grim history: of Greek and Celtic legends; of the school founder's "academic" interest in the occult; of gruesome 17th century witch trials. Annabel does her best to convince the girls that her classes aren't related to ancient rites and rituals, and that they are just history and mythology. But the more she tries to warn the girls off the topic, the more they drawn to it, and the possibility that they can harness magic for themselves.

Violet quickly finds herself wrapped up in this heady new world of lawless power--except she is needled by the disappearance of a former member of the group, one with whom Violet shares an uncanny resemblance. As her friends' actions take a turn for the darker and spiral out of control, she begins to wonder who she can trust, all the while becoming more deeply entangled. How far will these young girls go to protect one another...or to destroy one another?

As usual, my library doesn't have my book yet. I'm going to the library in a few so I'll ask about it, but chances are I'll have to buy the audio with audible credits because I'm pretty sure, knowing my library, I won't get it today or tomorrow. :(

Okay, the librarian that was there yesterday didn't really know what she was talking about, but she was able to tell me it's "unavailable" so there's no telling when I might get it. :(

At $13.99 for an ebook, I'm not planning to buy it.

30% - The book got off to a kind of slow start for me. The MC in the story is going to a new school and is apparently the doppelganger of a girl who used to go to the school but mysteriously died (or committed suicide). There's a teacher who appears to be more than she seems and the whole school is set on a ground where a witch was burned at the stake. I'm hoping it will get a bit faster as now the four girls are discussing witchcraft at least.

I'm with you so far on this one Trish - meh - not great, not awful...so far it's a 3 star read for me

50% - So, Viv is losing it a little. In the English class the teacher is talking about Macbeth and how Lady Macbeth was trying to wash her hands from the stickiness of murder. (view spoiler)[ Viv feels the same way and is starting to doubt her friends (hide spoiler)]

80% (view spoiler)[ Wow, Viv and Robin have really gone down the deep end. I'm not sure there's any turning back, although I know Viv made it because this is kind of a recollection of her youth. (hide spoiler)] The book is now a 4 star read for me.

Finished

I received this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I give this book 3.5 stars. The book started off a little slow for me, but it did pick up pace. I found the descent into madness fascinating, all for a young girl coming of age and wanting desperately to fit in. I felt bad for Viv, but thought the ending was well done.
