What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

So I don' remember a lot of it but I read this a few years ago in 3rd or 4th grade. My class was in the middle of it and I had just moved but I wanted to read the whole book. The world was dying,or something like that, and the main focus was on this family going to the space ship to find another place to live. The girl brought Hamlet to read as the only thing she could take with her.

I think it had the word Green as the first word in the title

Then at some point they landed on this planet and the grass was glass-like (?)

This is absolutely "The Green Book" by Jill Paton Walsh.
