To be honest, Oyin trust me it gets better by the second book. S&B #1 is rather slow paced before actual action makes you want to read on. The first book is mainly exploring the Grishaverse and Alina's perspective to all of this. I prefer Six of Crows if you'd like to check it out.

I like the S&B series yet book 1 is rather slow paced and it only gets better until the second book because the first one is mainly about exploring the Grishaverse and Alina's reactions to all of this change in her life. If you picked the book up because of the show on Netflix, it's much different because the directors and Leigh tried conjoining her two series. I prefer Six of Crows.
