I have never read any of her books, but have loved many of her films.

So I really loved the book/film

Then There Were None.

Many great films, which I am sure are great books.

W | 34 comments Murder on the Orient Express, great ending.

message 8: by W (new)

W | 34 comments Recently read The Murder of Roger Ackroyd. Some call it her best book. I don't think so. The ending is good, the rest is a conventional Christie book.

message 9: by Pamela (new)

Pamela Mclaren | 33 comments I too have ben rereading several of Christie's novels — and discovering ones that I don't know if I have read, so just forgotten.

Such as So Many Steps to Death, which I thought was very different than her normal work because it deals with scientists that go missing and a young woman taking up a dying woman's identity to find out how and why.

I also enjoyed The Secret of Chimneys The Secret of Chimneys (Superintendent Battle, #1) by Agatha Christie that introduces Superintendent Battle of Scotland Yard in a tale of a young Canadian who finds possibly more that he bargains for when he takes on a supposedly simple errant: carrying a political manuscript from South Africa to England and into the hands of a publisher.

A Poirot book that I read late last year was Lord Edgware Dies Lord Edgware Dies (Hercule Poirot, #9) by Agatha Christie and another I don't believe I've read before but enjoyed. My only complaint that she gave Poirot a clue the reader was not aware of in this case of the mysterious death of a title man after he agrees to a divorce of his actress wife.

W | 34 comments The Mysterious Affair at Styles (Hercule Poirot, #1) by Agatha Christie ,
Christie's debut effort and the first one, featuring her Belgian detective,Hercule Poirot.

Doesn't feel like a first book, her mastery of her craft is already apparent. And yet publishers rejected it for years !

3.5/5

message 17: by W (new)

W | 34 comments Among her sleuths,I've always had a fondness for Miss Marple. Her humour works best in this series.

message 18: by W (new)

W | 34 comments They Came to Baghdad by Agatha Christie
Not her usual whodunit, but a cold war thriller.Great fun.

4/5

message 19: by W (new)

W | 34 comments Postern of Fate (Tommy and Tuppence, #5) by Agatha Christie

message 21: by Michelle (new)

Michelle I think liked every Agatha Christie book I've read but I love The Murder of Roger Ackroyd and Death on the Nile.
I just found Evil Under the Sun for a great price at a used book store. I haven't read it yet but hope to soon.

message 22: by W (last edited Dec 21, 2020 09:25AM) (new)

W | 34 comments The Murder of Roger Ackroyd has a twist ending, which is great.

She is generally very good, but there have been a couple so far, which I didn't enjoy too much :

Death in the Clouds

Third Girl

message 23: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Good to know. I haven't read them yet. For me, Murder in Mesopotamia was probably the weakest. I liked it but didnt completely buy the ending.

message 24: by W (new)

W | 34 comments Haven't read that one,yet.

message 25: by W (new)

W | 34 comments My Agatha Christie binge continues.Bought ten more of her books, which shouldn't take too long to read.
Eventually, intend to read all her books.
Next up :
Murder in the Mews

message 26: by Francesca (new)

Francesca Crozier | 8 comments Read Agatha Christie death on the Nile. A really good read and loved Egypt in the background.

message 27: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Loved Death on the Nile!! The characters were interesting and believable with a touch of madness.

message 28: by W (new)

W | 34 comments Haven't read Death on the Nile, so far.

Murder in the Mews was pretty good, four Poirot stories. 3/5

message 29: by W (new)

W | 34 comments Currently reading :

Lord Edgware Dies (Hercule Poirot, #9) by Agatha Christie Lord Edgware Dies

So far,very interesting.

message 30: by Jeffrey (new)

Jeffrey Marshall (jmarsh17) | 57 comments She was a genius, in a quintessentially conventional English way. If you haven't read some of the classics, like "Death on the Nile" or "Murder on the Orient Express," you should. And then there is perhaps her most extraordinary book, "The Murder of Roger Ackroyd." The twist in the plot was revolutionary, audacious and unforgettable.

message 31: by W (new)

W | 34 comments Her most extraordinary book in my opinion is,And Then There were None.

message 32: by W (new)

W | 34 comments Enjoyed the Big Four,a Christie thriller.Had read plenty of negative reviews about this one,but it was great fun. Also does Hercule Poirot have a twin brother called Achille Poirot ?

message 33: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 2061 comments W wrote: "Her most extraordinary book in my opinion is,And Then There were None."

I have copies of that book with the original title, the replacement title and this one! I agree that it is her very best.

message 34: by W (new)

W | 34 comments That's interesting Kandice. Why do you have all three titles,Ten Little Niggers,Ten Little Indians and
And Then There were None ?
I remember when I first read it decades ago,I got the one with Ten Little Niggers.

message 35: by W (new)

W | 34 comments Also watched its 1945 movie version and it fails to capture the sustained tension and excitement of the book.
