Teri Pre | 89 comments I'm curious about how many seri (see other discussions!!) everyone has finished? How many do you have outstanding? How do you choose your next series?

message 2: by Dianne (new)

Dianne I have 7 current and showing about 25 outstanding.
I don't have them all on yet so I am not to sure.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 3 comments Is a series ever finished? Unless you choose trilogies (and even then it's not a given)...

For my part I have 48 Completed series, 74 current, 137 I'm hopelessly trying to catch up to and 23 I've abandonned. As you can see, I'm very wary of starting new one because my reading list is already out of control....I think I need an intervention.

message 4: by Teri Pre (new)

Teri Pre | 89 comments I'm totally out of control Valerie! I have 76 seri finished, 14 seri that I'm working on and over 500 on my list. That doesn't count all of the NON-series books that I have on my TBR list!!

I keep telling myself that I can't die until my TBR list is finished! :)

message 5: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 34 comments It was too hard to work out as you've all done, but I do have some stats.

Total seri listed = 525
Seri not started yet = 122
Seri current or finished = 168
Seri on going or abandoned = 235

I've only listed books on FF that I own, so no wish listed books. As to next seri, I'm a mood reader, so it could be anything.

message 6: by Jen (last edited Nov 12, 2014 06:31AM) (new)

Jen (jwolff) | 10 comments hrm. I have 74 series listed as current.

I am following 246 series, with 940 books read.

I am partially through 79 Series - though many of them im current up to the books released. I have not started 93 of them have not been started yet.

So much to read, so little time.

message 7: by Anne Louise (new)

Anne Louise Bannon | 15 comments I currently have 209 series that I'm following - although that number will be growing since I just got back from Bouchercon and found/met all sorts of authors I'm now interested in. Plus another series that a friend posted in my main feed.

I am current/done with 50 series, and have 60 that I haven't started yet.

message 8: by Karen ♐ (new)

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) I have 767 series I'm following right now...How can I see how many I've finished?

Anne Louise Bannon | 15 comments Karen ♐ wrote: "I have 767 series I'm following right now...How can I see how many I've finished?"

Karen - Go to the My Series page and follow the column headers to the far right column that says "Progress." Click on the tiny arrows immediately to the right of the word and it will sort your series by how far along you are. Depending on which arrow you click, your series will sort in both ascending (starting with series you haven't started) or descending (starting with series that are current) order.

Hope this helps

message 10: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (debbiegray) | 13 comments I am current on ten seri and have 63 in progress and hundreds that I want to read. I have a bunch of #1's to start, but I am trying to finish some as I find the books. Of course I have many none series to read and on my want to read list. I just need to find a way to get paid for reading instead of working.

Paris (kerbytejas) (kerbytejas) I have 124 series listed and 50 marked as current

message 12: by Deborah (new)

Deborah | 17 comments My definition of current isn't the same as FF's.

To me current means I've read everything that's been published. Finished means I've read everything and no other novels are planned. I think short stories are extra and shouldn't be counted for the status of the series.

message 13: by Sunny☼ (new)

Sunny☼ (sunny2) | 8 comments One never knows when a series is finished. For example Biana D'Arc (author) after many years has gone back to continue adding books to two of her series. Author's prerogative.

message 14: by Sunny☼ (new)

Sunny☼ (sunny2) | 8 comments I have 251 "current" series, 5 series not yet started and 47 in progress.

Deborah | 17 comments Sunny☼ wrote: "One never knows when a series is finished. For example Biana D'Arc (author) after many years has gone back to continue adding books to two of her series. Author's prerogative."

I did say, "planned." The status of a series can be changed by an author at a later date, doesn't stop me from saying I've finished the series now.

message 16: by Sunny☼ (new)

Sunny☼ (sunny2) | 8 comments I understand and agree Deborah. Truth is, I too would like the stamp finished and know that it indeed finished. I guess a need to tidy up loose strands..but...

I like your FFN finished for now.

message 17: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (darthval) | 3 comments According to FictFact:

Total Series: 174
Series Current: 19

I wish there was a way to shift some of the series to account for those deliberately abandoned. Also, for some of these series, I am actually current, but unpublished books have been added to the series.

message 18: by Sylvie (new)

Sylvie I have 77 series that are either completed or up-to-date, and another 72 that are in progress. But, like Valerie said, it would be great to have a way to separate series I'm actually following from those I've abandoned.

message 19: by Teri Pre (new)

Teri Pre | 89 comments The only way I've found to abandon a series (besides deleting it completely) is to mark all of the other books as "skipped".

I too would love it if those could be put in a separate "pile".

message 20: by Brian (new)

Brian Kirsten | 41 comments Mod
We don't have an option (yet) to not include the series in your "ALL" list if you abandoned it. But if you go to your Next Book List (http://www.fictfact.com/profile/nextb...) you can head to the pulldown next to the book and select "Remove from Next Books". That will remove abandoned series from that list and you won't get notified when new books get added to that series.

message 21: by Jeanie (new)

Jeanie Jackson I have 113 series listed but I have removed some older ones that I originally listed. I have read over 600 and have 56 books list still to read. I have series that I keep forgetting to add too. Thanks

message 22: by Faith (new)

Faith (faithnchls) I currently have 127 series on my list. I am CURRRENT in 13 series and I have made PROGRESS in 20 series. The rest have not been started! One of these days I hope to have enough time in the day to read them ALL!

message 23: by Sandy (last edited Feb 01, 2015 07:45AM) (new)

Sandy Eichelberger (sandye) I looked at all my series and divided them up this way:
Series Completed (all published) 49
Finished novels but not all novellas(completed series) 16
Waiting for next installment 42
Haven't read all yet or may not finish series 86

This really made me look back at all the series I have forsaken or need to get back to. There are some I will never spend time finishing but others are definitely on my "to read" list. I wonder how others handle the novellas in their completed count?
Love Fict Fact and appreciate the hard work that goes into keeping us up-to-date with our reading passion.

message 24: by Teri Pre (new)

Teri Pre | 89 comments Novellas are hit and miss with me. Sometimes I read them and sometimes I don't. I just use the "skipped" option and consider the series finished.

message 27: by Roger (new)

Roger Martensson | 1 comments I've got nothing as many series as some of you. Got only 38 series. One problem I have is that I read some series in a language other than english so for some series it's a bit of detective work to find. :)
Some books, that in english is one book, are more than one book in my language and that makes it even harder.

But I love FictFact because I've noticed that I've missed a book now and then in some series. Keep up the good work!

I also read some books that is bundled together with other with other books in a combined ISBN-number which makes it a bit strange. Since I've read the book but not with that exact ISBN-number. But that is not a big problem for me. Just get an odd feeling. :)

message 28: by Karen-Leigh (new)

Karen-Leigh | 28 comments Total cosy series started 85. Number of series I stopped collecting after five or six or seven or eight books 27. Number of series I stopped because the writer died or stopped writing 12. So I am currently buying each new book in 44 series. That does not include my vampire series, my regency series, my historical sea series, my science fiction series, my biographical collections eg everything about or by the Bloomsbury group, everything by or about Churchill, Hunter S. Thompson, my cartoon collections like Doonsbury. It is a wonder I can afford to eat...all the money goes out on books.

message 29: by Sylvie (new)

Sylvie Karen, I'm the same way. But on the other hand, I don't buy loads of clothes, shoes, handbags, makeup or hair products. Books are my one big indulgence!

message 30: by Karen-Leigh (new)

Karen-Leigh | 28 comments It is true, I spend no money on those things and never have. I am a book hoarder. I confess most of my cosy collection in on Kindle...no room at the inn for so many new books but any series that I have in paper, I buy the latest in paper. If I bought first in series on Kindle, all the latest go on Kindle. I am trying not to start any new series with new authors until I have made a dent in the existing series. I stopped reading cosies for months but still bought the books as they came out so now I have one or two new ones for each of my authors. I am so tempted by new series by authors I am currently collecting but I am trying really hard not to give in.

message 31: by Shirley (new)

Shirley Bennett (1shirlb) | 45 comments I just started counting the series that I have read...omg.. I have not finished compiling, and these are just the ones I have in book form: 48, and almost 30 that have new books out that I have not read, and I have not looked at my Kindle... i'm afraid now.. ha! Reading is a serious indulgance for me.. My husband just looks around my study and figures out where to put more book cases!! ha!! Love the guy!

message 32: by Karen-Leigh (new)

Karen-Leigh | 28 comments Never have enough bookshelves because rooms do not have enough wall.

message 33: by Teri Pre (new)

Teri Pre | 89 comments You'll have to set some of your rooms like libraries, with shelves in the middle of the room!!

message 34: by Karen-Leigh (new)

Karen-Leigh | 28 comments Hehehehe. I love that idea but I do not have the floor space. I would love furniture adapted into bookcases, couches with shelves instead of feet, same with bed, side tables that are four sided bookcases, dining room tables that are lazy susans of books with table top on top of circular book shelves with spaces for four chairs. If I were rich, I would have my furniture made to hold books.

message 35: by Teri Pre (new)

Teri Pre | 89 comments :) Sounds lovely!

Shirley Bennett (1shirlb) | 45 comments Take a look at Pinterest- so many ideas for places to make into bookshelves! Lol!!

message 37: by Karen-Leigh (new)

Karen-Leigh | 28 comments Weirdness that is my life. Minutes after I posted the above message 35, I opened an email from my son and it was a piece of bookcase furniture. A huge circular bookcase with cushions on inside for seating. This happens to me all the time like I am tapped into the future.

message 38: by Karen-Leigh (new)

Karen-Leigh | 28 comments I am on Pinterest and I collect photos like that in my Book album, also bookstores and libraries from around the world. Anything to do with books or reading.

message 39: by Shirley (new)

Shirley Bennett (1shirlb) | 45 comments I have a few boards on Pinterest - authors, things to do with books & all things bookshelves/stores - dragons- the site can be addictive! Lol

message 40: by Karen-Leigh (new)

Karen-Leigh | 28 comments You betchum Red Ryder, I have a lot of boards too and one of them is Dragons.

message 41: by Karen-Leigh (new)

Karen-Leigh | 28 comments I have one board for cosies I want to buy and another of biographies I am waiting to get. One of cosies I own but this just reminded me to go and update that one. I started one for Keepers in my personal library but I have too many books and even to abstract favourites is not possible...I have too many favourites.

message 42: by Shirley (new)

Shirley Bennett (1shirlb) | 45 comments Yep- way too any books- & not even 1/2 my authors!! Lol

message 43: by Karen-Leigh (new)

Karen-Leigh | 28 comments Okay, the series I am currently reading is not great and I wish I were capable of just skipping the last four unread books in the series and get on to something more interesting...sigh. Life is too short to be a completist in everything.

Shirley Bennett (1shirlb) | 45 comments Karen-leigh wrote: "Okay, the series I am currently reading is not great and I wish I were capable of just skipping the last four unread books in the series and get on to something more interesting...sigh. Life is to..."

Hey Karen - life is too short to read something you are not enjoying... unless you are getting paid to do it!! LOL - What series are you reading now??

message 45: by Teri Pre (new)

Teri Pre | 89 comments I just love that FictFact has a "skipped" button. Sometimes a series gets better with each book and sometimes the stories get so predictable I could write them myself. When I get to the point that I'm just not enjoying the series any more, I skip the rest of them. As Shirley said, life is too short and there are too many great books to waste time on mediocre books. Skip them!!

message 46: by Karen-Leigh (new)

Karen-Leigh | 28 comments I hate to put out that I don't like a series and slam some poor author because enjoyment of books is so subjective and personal. I have tried to skip books but then I carry the nagging feeling. It is easier to read fast, skimming the surface and not trying to absorb content. It feels like cheating but once I have finished the book I can put in the never to be read again pile. What bothers me about Kindle is I cannot give those never to be read again books away and get them out of sight as well as out of mind. The series was really inexpensive, never came out in paperback so do not even have covers and they really are not that bad. One problem is I cannot read about animals being harmed...even to advance a story or make a plot. Even if they pull through. It is like hurt/comfort stories in fan fiction. Some people only read gen fan fiction and their hurt/comfort is so extreme that it becomes hard to believe that they have any caring for the characters at all...they torture them in ways that to me are sickening in order to have a reason for extreme comfort. I cannot read that kind of thing about people or animals. There are a lot of stories that are just too close to the bone for me to enjoy and it is a personal hang up and not the fault of the writer.

message 47: by Shirley (new)

Shirley Bennett (1shirlb) | 45 comments I'm impressed with your ethics, Karen & can appreciate your feelings!! - hope your next series is a great read! In all sincerity; Shirley

message 48: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany (herbtiff) Hi Karen-
I actually share my Kindle with my nieces and nephew. Sometimes I get books that there is stuff I do not want my nieces/nephew to read. I actually go in under Manage My Kindle Content and physically remove them from my "own" list or from the Kindle list. I maintain that if you are not enjoying a series and can express in words, not against the author, but reasons like the pace is too slow for my liking or like you stated the torturing of animals was too much for me as a reader, or something along those lines it helps others of us out there that feel that same as you do, but hopefully doesn't hurt the author too much. No one is perfect and a reader is subjective as you have said, but good reviews of why and why not are helpful, too! ;)

Best of luck in your next series. I too am like you and have to finish a bad, in my opinion, read but I can stop a series in the middle and just skip the rest...

message 49: by Karen-Leigh (new)

Karen-Leigh | 28 comments I do confess that if the series had been in paperback that I could take to a second hand bookstore and trade in for another book I would not be so antsy about finishing it but I paid for it and I have no one to share my Kindle with and deleting it off my Kindle and leaving it in the cloud does not help my penny pinching soul. I also confess I am really not good at critiquing books I read, most of the time I find enjoyment in everything and, as I said, only have difficulty with stories about abuse or graphic violence and one just doesn't buy them but cute kitty on Amazon drew me and I bought eight or nine books before I started reading them :-) The writing itself was fine as far as I understand good writing and there was a lot of interesting bits that made it possible to finish the books. I find as I get older that my taste is changing and I do not know it till I hit whatever the hot button is when I am reading. Stories with children no longer make me feel cosy, stories with sex and romance no longer engage me. Maybe that is why I am reading cosies :-) and biographies, and encyclopedias.

message 50: by Teri Pre (new)

Teri Pre | 89 comments I had to stop reading Greg Iles because of the graphic violence. I love his style of writing and his genre (thrillers) but the graphic violence was too much for me. I also had to stop reading Tess Gerritsen's Rizzoli and Isles books because I got tired of Isles depression. The first couple of books in that series were ok, the next few were fantastic then came the slow decline. I don't feel a bit guilty!
