Melanie | 1911 comments What is in your queue for November [YA or MA]?

message 2: by Amy (new)

Amy | 237 comments Froi of the Exiles (Lumatere Chronicles, #2) by Melina Marchetta The Wicked King (The Folk of the Air, #2) by Holly Black are definite reads for this month.

I will probably go onto Quintana of Charyn (Lumatere Chronicles, #3) by Melina Marchetta as well since I am only a little bit through Froi of the Exiles and I'm loving it already. I'll probably want to just keep going.

message 3: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 867 comments ... I am betting on Quintana, Amy.

message 4: by Rachel (last edited Nov 03, 2019 01:12PM) (new)

Rachel | 560 comments You know, I finished Froi, bought Quinatana and then never read it. And it's been years! I've forgotten what's happened. Let me know, Amy, if I need to reread or if I can jump right in again. Hhmmmm, I wonder if ReCaptains has a summary?

I'm still trying to make my way through The Dark Days Deceit (Lady Helen, #3) by Alison Goodman . I've really like this series, I've just found myself reading other things at the moment

message 5: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 867 comments In my opinion, you should reread, Rachel, when you feel like rereading a great series. There's a huge cliffhanger at the end of Froi so I couldn't wait and jumped into Quintana.

message 6: by Amy (new)

Amy | 237 comments Oh no a cliffhanger?? I'll definitely be going straight into Quintana then. I'd also add that there are quite a few different storylines in the book so far. Unless your memory is really good I'd do a reread just to make sure I remembered all that went on. It's soooooo good. I'm loving it. Too much actually, my exam study is suffering. haha.

Ashley Marie I started Gabrielle Union's memoir We're Going to Need More Wine by Gabrielle Union yesterday and it's fantastic.

Planning on also picking up Early Riser by Jasper Fforde The Romanov Empress A Novel of Tsarina Maria Feodorovna by C.W. Gortner Carter & Lovecraft (Carter & Lovecraft, #1) by Jonathan L. Howard The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms (Inheritance, #1) by N.K. Jemisin if I have time between NaNoWriMo.

I forgot about the cliffhanger! Thanks for the reminder. And the first book was really great... maybe you're Sandra. I reread is probably a good idea!

message 9: by mich (new)

mich I started Call Down the Hawk (Dreamer, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater last night.

I hated book #4.5 Opal (The Raven Cycle, #4.5) by Maggie Stiefvater so I was a little worried, but I'm 2 chapters in and it's all good so far

Another Maggie Stiefvater series!! And it's about Ronan!! Yes please. I have to read that one.

message 11: by mich (new)

mich Amy I think it’s lendable on kindle - if it is, I can loan you mine when I’m done

message 12: by Amy (new)

Amy | 237 comments That would have been great but I don't have a kindle, I have a Kobo. Thank you for offering though. I can't wait to read what you thought of it.

message 13: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 867 comments I am reading (and enjoying) What a Difference a Duke Makes (School for Dukes, #1) by Lenora Bell .
After that I might pick The Cruel Prince (The Folk of the Air, #1) by Holly Black or Flamecaster (Shattered Realms, #1) by Cinda Williams Chima or A Symphony of Echoes (The Chronicles of St. Mary's, #2) by Jodi Taylor or The Queen and the Cure (The Bird and the Sword Chronicles, #2) by Amy Harmon .

@Mich: I hope you love it. I love Maggie Stiefvater and Ronan and I would hate not to love any book by her.

I just finished and I agree with you so far. Definitely my favourite. I don't know how the last one is going to beat this one. I had to start Quintana of Charynl straight away. :-)

You will love it! Great writing that pulls your whole self into the story!

message 18: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1234 comments I have that on my TBR - Tell me what you think. I love Shusterman!

Dee (austhokie) | 345 comments he writes such intriguing worlds 0 have you read Dry by him?

message 20: by Melanie, looking for a partner in crime (last edited Nov 12, 2019 02:45PM) (new)

Melanie | 1911 comments So far this month I've read:
The Selection (The Selection, #1) by Kiera Cass and I'm Not Dying with You Tonight by Kimberly Jones
The Selection was kind of predictable in a bad way, but I liked some aspects of the world-building. I'm Not Dying With You Tonight was a Big Read promotion via the Philadelphia Free Library. I probably wouldn't have picked it up, but I liked it. It takes place in just a single night where an urban African American girl and a rural white girl end up relying on each other as their hometown descents into riot and chaos. It was well done.

I plan on finishing Refugee by Alan Gratz and They Called Us Enemy by George Takei soon. I'm having my students read something that's historical fiction or non-fiction for their independent reading this month, so I figured I should do the same. Graphic biographies like They Called Us Enemy are becoming a neew favorite genre of mine. I really seem to enjoy them.

I'm also wending my way through An Assassin's Guide to Love and Treason by Virginia Boecker .

And because I have focus issues, I'm also reading The Tyrant's Tomb (The Trials of Apollo, #4) by Rick Riordan and Dead Voices (Small Spaces #2) by Katherine Arden .

Diane | 1234 comments Dee wrote: "he writes such intriguing worlds 0 have you read Dry by him?"

No But it also is on my TBR - Have you? Is it good?

Ashley Marie Dee wrote: "The Toll came in for me at the library - so looking forward to reading it"

I'm reading The Toll right now too, Dee! It's really good so far! I liked the premise of Dry but it's not my favorite of his books (that's probably still Unwind).

message 23: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 345 comments Dry isn’t my favorite by him but all his books I thinks the most rooted in potential to really occur

message 24: by Melanie, looking for a partner in crime (last edited Nov 24, 2019 04:46PM) (new)

Melanie | 1911 comments I finished The Tyrant's Tomb (The Trials of Apollo, #4) by Rick Riordan .
I know I'm invested in the characters, so it makes me biased, but it was just wonderful. Soo excited for the last book of the series.

I also listened to my last Dresden reread Small Favor (The Dresden Files, #10) by Jim Butcher via public library.
There's more book in the series, but they are not @ the library, so I will probably stop my reread rather than buy the remaining audio books.
Peace Talks (The Dresden Files, #16) by Jim Butcher will come out soon enough!

Read The Elite (The Selection, #2) by Kiera Cass and started The One (The Selection, #3) by Kiera Cass .
Again, I don't think the writing/ characters are well crafted, but there is something in the world-building that is keeping me interested.

Sandra | 867 comments I have really liked my few November picks:
-Romance : What a Difference a Duke Makes (School for Dukes, #1) by Lenora Bell .
-YA fantasy : The Bird and the Sword (The Bird and the Sword Chronicles, #1) by Amy Harmon Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1) by Sarah J. Maas (I am still on it but I am enjoying the reading in spite of many typical YA stuff)
