It is not a hold, Inanda. Dani is like that with everyone. She is not necessarily a part of Sidhe-Seers but she sees them as her sisters. They are her family though she never really fit in. Dani has a lot of emotional issues that stems from her childhood. She is strong and a fighter but she doesn't know love. She doesn't like to be caged. She will protect those around her no matter what even if they are not deserving. That is where all that superhero crap comes in. She is stronger than them so she will protect them. I remember Jo being nasty to her in the fever books so it was surprising that she came to Dani's rescue. Of course, Dani wants acceptance so she is oblivious to what is going on. Ryo did call her on it.

I felt suspicious too when it was Jo, out of all people, who went and tried to rescue Dani. When she was chained up in Ryo's dungeon, dani observed her and here's what she said about Jo that got me thinking: "I don't know why [Jo] is looking at [Ryodan] like that. She hates him." That means Jo was looking at Ryodan in a way that contradicted her apparent hatred of him. Makes me think, perhaps Jo had gotten her eyes on Ryodan before she even worked at Chesters.

Yep. I agree, Cookie. I think when they had some interactions in Shadowfever, she started to look at him like that. It was weird for sure.

Love everyone's great thoughts! Yeah I think when she came to "save" Dani it was because in the back of her mind she really wanted to see Ryo again and wondered what would happen when she did see him.

I think she has a small attachment to Dani, but never has cared THAT much for her (as opposed to Kat). It seemed to me that Dani liked her okay in the books before Burned, but when Jo comes in to "rescue" her from the dungeon, Dani's protective instincts jump into play and Dani is all of a sudden worried for Jo and wanting to watch out for her. Dani is so bi-polar sometimes--like, oh I hate these sidhe-seers, bahh, bah, then, OMG I have to protect them NOW! I think that is how all of a sudden she is feeling more gushy toward Jo.

I could definitely see Jo screwing Dani over. It seems like Jo looks out for herself as top priority and wouldn't be averse to throwing others under the bus.

Now, why Ryo keeps Jo around... yes Sam definitely to use her for her abilities. Part of me also thinks that he would prefer Dani to see that he can go steady with one woman. It is all part of his manipulation.

I know some people were saying that he was using her to show that he can be with one woman. The problem I have with that is how long can that go down? If she is around too long then it gives off the appearance that this is something serious. How can you get the girl if you are having a relationship with her friend?

Agreed, Samantha. Ryo couldn't have chosen, for goodness' sake, ANYONE in that club to show he's able to do long-term romance. But no, he specifically targeted Jo, who he clearly knows will become problematic to his potential relationship with Dani later on... Looking backward and forward, it just doesn't make sense.

Or maybe Ryo's just that big of a d***h***, as Dani would say, LOL.

I don't know. He might learn his lesson when she starts to understand her feelings towards him and can't hide it. Then it will be one of those, "Oh crap! I shouldn't have let it get this far with this other broad" kind of stuff.

At this stage, I think the whole Ryo/Dani relationship (as weird/messed up as this sounds) is more like a father/daughter relationship. They spend time together, he gives her lots of advice, he is an authoritative figure, and even when Dani is trying to understand her feelings toward him after she thinks she killed him, she using language that suggests the daughter/father relationship. She isn't thinking of him romantically at all (Dancer is the only one she thinks is "hot").

Ryodan also is treating her as a young girl and not as a romantic interest. He purposely tries to shield her from Lor's insinuating jibes, and doesn't want to see her dressed up as a Chester's hoe waitress. I think he has theoretical plans in the future to put the moves on her romantically, but that at the moment he is being a protective influence to keep her alive. Since he is into all the psychological manipulation, I think the move with Jo is showing Dani that he could be in a stable adult relationship if he wants to be, and can at times treat this woman with sweetness. The Ryo/Jo relationship is forcing Dani to learn new things--what it means to be with someone, to love, to be jealous, etc. Ryodan also might be thinking it's better to see him with one woman for a while than just boinking a new one each night.

My hope is that he won't let the whole Jo thing go on too long. I hope he will practice some abstinence and "wait" for Dani at a certain point instead of going back to sleeping with a different waitress each night once he breaks things off with Jo.

I don't like using the daughter/father description for them. It is more like mentoring her. She wants to hate him but she finds herself admiring him in more than one way.

Yes, I don't think he is romantically invested in her. In fact, I like that to think that he is shocked that he actually likes her. Whatever his reasons for having her around (I don't care what anyone says, it wasn't about the damn city turning to ice), he is starting to see the real Dani. The potential. That is the woman he will be attracted to when the time comes.

I think he is pissed of at himself right know! Because how can he a thousand and some year old being have feelings for a snot nose mere human 13/14 year old girl! And he is a Alpha male. And he definitely have issues about his looks.That's why he is always in the shadows? Most properly have a scar in his face and don't think Dani can handle it.Because she is so beautiful and always surrounded by these sexy men? Christian and Dancer are both gorgeous !!! Or this is a big one maybe he killed Dani mother and he is afraid she will remember it?

Remember when Ryodan and Mac talked about Dani in DreamFever, and Mac asked him, "Does today amuse, Ryodan?" and he looked at Dani and said, "Yes. More than it has in recent...years." She then reminded him that Dani was 13, and Ryodan said, "Time will remedy that." I don't about you but I think his last quote summarizes his intentions toward Dani. He's invested in her both as a powerful asset, much like Mac being Barrons' OOP Detector, as well as his woman, when time fulfills its role as a "remedy." ;)

Inanda, I don't believe Ryodan (or any of the Nine IMO) can be bother to care about the puny mortals/immortals' opinions about him, much less his physical appearance lol. If anything, his scars only serves to amp up the man's attractiveness!

Inanda, I have to disagree. The shadows have to represent something else. Not that he is afraid of his appearance. Mac already said he was good looking and we know he has a scar. So that couldn't be it. I think we aren't able to pin his physical appearance down because it is really for Dani to show us. Like when she finally sees him as the sexiness he is. LOL.

Cookie, I always went back to that line because Ryodan is King of stacking things up for use later on. He has the best machines and toys. He likes to be prepared for anything. Dani is one of those things. We don't even know how powerful she is. She doesn't even know. I doubt freeze-framing is the only thing she can do. If he has been watching her since she was nine, I bet you he has seen what she can do...makes me wonder has he peeped her in Observer mode. KMM said one time that there are things that he knows about Dani that we don't know yet. As a collector of fine things, he is going to hold onto her.

USA Today released a BURNED excerpt 3 days ago!!!! and I knew nothing about this. I'm offended. It's part of the sex with Lor excerpt so I guess most of you guys have read it, but still, let's add to the collection!

I hate the fact that the book is ready, but will not be published before the 20th of January. Come on, it would have been the perfect Christmas gift.

Yeah, agreed that Ryo is a hot scarred gucci model type as KMM describes him. To me he seemed completely confident of his looks and powers of male attraction (He always uses his good looks, physical proximity and touch to intimidate, like with Kat). Yes, what could the shadows mean? And when Kat tries to "feel" him with her gift and there is a big nothing. Is that because of the curse? Because the nine don't have souls?

Samantha, yeah I don't like the father/daughter metaphor either, but do think it applies to their initial dynamic. Mentor could be a better way to phrase it. But this quote below is what made me think of it, when he is asking her, "Disappointed or loyal?"

Yeah I will be so mad if there isn't lots of Dani/Ryo page time... I would much rather read about them than the unseelie princess' exploits with Lor... eeew I just am not interested in that stuff when it comes to Lor

See I ignored that line when she is describing her emotions when she thought she lost him. I didn't take it literally.

Haha. I like Lor. I don't mind reading his parts because at least it is new.

Have you noticed that KMM never released any teaser with Dani/Ryo interaction? Except for one tiny sentence where Ryo says, "Play with fire, Dani, you know what you get..." That can only mean two things: either there are so few of them KMM doesn't even bother with, or because the moments are super epic and great that she's hoarding them all xD

I saw on facebook that one of her fans asked KMM when she would release a Ryodan teaser. KMM answered (just from memory) that there wouldn't be any Ryodan teasers as she is saving the best parts for the book.

I figured that. We wouldn't get a snippet because it would either reveal too much or just blow the mind.

You ladies have some great theories! I don't know where I stand on the Ryodan and Dani controversy. Right now, I like them having the father/daughter or mentor type relationship. If it does become romantic in time, it needs to be a slow build. Dani has had such a hard life, I just want her to get to have some real love and tenderness. And while Ryo is super hot and obviously an amazing lover, I'm not sure he can be gentle and romantic. At least not in the way I think Dani needs/deserves. Which, of course, I could be completely wrong about that. I just don't want to see Dani get hurt and I really think Ryo has the potential to majorly break her heart.

I think the person who has the potential to break her heart the most is Dancer. If he turns out to not be just a supersmart college student and is something more sinister, I think that would hurt her more.

I really believe that Ryodan would be capable of showing tender love toward Dani, and this is not just because Im pro-Ryodan haha. I think we are associating too much of all the Nine's personalities/qualities to those of Barrons. Ryodan is NOT Barrons. We've seem the way he treats Kat and Jo. He is very gentle with women. Even Lor said Ryodan can't stand seeing women cry and that it messes him up every time. Ryodan might be similar to Barrons in ways, but he sees and treats women very differently from him. It would not surprise me if Ryodan wculd actually say "I love you" out loud to Dani in the next books :P.

In conclusion, I think Ryodan is very much a reasonable competitor as dani's first romance.
(But it'd be cool too to see the Dani/Dancer relationship giving Ryo grief hahaha.)

I think it would hurt Dani if Dancer is something other than what he claims to be...which I think he is. I don't know if it would break her.

Ryodan is very capable of showing Dani some tender loving. He will not do so if he feels she is not reciprocal of it though. He keeps telling her that he can be very nice if she treats him right and asks. I think he means it too. She is not trusting of him at this point and sees him as a bad guy because of Chesters.

Dani will need the I love you declaration or at least something that screams it aloud. She has never been shown kindness or love except from Mac and that was even short lived after the big reveal came out about Alina.

I still think that Dancer will be her first romance. And I hope he will be. I want her to have a teenage romance before Ryodan, which I suspect will be too intense for a girl with no experience.

I am split about this as well! I feel she needs that sweet young romance but she is a complex character and I don't know if this will work?

I asked KMM last night why we never see much Ryodan or Ryodan/Dani teasers, and she said, "Sure. Just don't expect an answer :)."

Haha, I've actually been trying to look for her previous answer on the matter, where she wrote that she was saving the best parts for the book, but I could not find it. I'm wondering if she has removed them from her facebook.

Facebook usually hides many posts on the time to save us scrolling time, so that could be it. Have you tried looking for it on the computer instead of a smartphone?

Intense and powerful.

There is the teaser about Dani counting sheep and her thoughts turning to Ryodan. So Dani will definitely begin to feel attraction to Ryo in Burned. I am kinda glad there aren't more Dani/Ryo teasers because I want it all to be a big surprise when I read the book! :)

My thing is, the 9 have rules that no one knows who or what they really are. They killed one of the other's woman (Casteo?) because she knew too much and it isn't allowed. I firmly believe that Ryodan was involved in that and will gladly deal out that same fate to Mac if he is able. So, he is not going to willingly go into a serious relationship with anyone. It could come to the point where he has to hurt Dani to keep her safe from the others if he does develop true romantic feelings for her.

I really don't want it to turn out that Dani is somehow "love lived and hard to kill" like Mac is just so that she and Ryo can have a HEA. As much as I'd like to see both of them have a HEA, I don't want this amazing series to somehow turn into a formulaic romance. I've seen people talk about wanting a book for each of The Nine, I personally do not. These man-beasts that have been around for millennia cannot suddenly all turn into mushy love-sick fools and decide to risk exposing themselves to the world all for a so-called happily ever after that can't really last with a mortal.

I hope I am not reading this wrong and correct me if I am. The whole rule thing is kind of up in the air since Mac knows about them. They haven't killed her yet. Barrons won't allow it since he has made the rule. I am not quite following where you are going in relations to Dani.

I agree. I don't need a book for each of the nine.
