Ilona | 4698 comments It's that time: we are going to prepare this group for 2020!

To answer some questions:
- Yes, the group will continue into 2020!
- Yes, we will archive all of your 2019 challenges and corners so you don't lose your info!
- Yes, we will have a bunch of new yearly challenges for you!

You'll notice that the group name just changed to reflect that it'll continue on next year.
We are all very excited and hope that you are too!

Here's the schedule the Mods have put together so far:

Mid November:

- Yearly, Quarterly and Monthly Themes will be announced!

End of November:
- Post January and Q1 challenges. They will be available for viewing but locked for comments

Early December:
- Start posting yearly challenges (these will be posted over the course of several weeks to give you the opportunity to read through them)
- Create the new folders for personal challenges and member corners

Last Week of December:
- Unlock January and Quarter 1 challenges

First week of January:
- Change group name
- Archive 2019 topics
- Start Masthead and Logo contest

Please post any questions you may have about the transition here.

Robin Loves Reading (robint60) | 42 comments This is so exciting! I love this group. I love being able to copy and paste my monthly reads directly to my blog and how they link my back to Goodreads. I have been able to put up a monthly reads for every single month.

Beverly (zippymom) | 1484 comments I have enjoyed my year and am still working diligently on my challenges. Unexpected family illness took a bite out of my reading time but in spite of that, I think I'll finish all but one. And the time away was worth it...the books will still be there!! So thanks to all of you who work so hard to give us goals to shoot for!!!!

@Brandy
Your 2018 Member's Corner thread or 2018 Personal Challenge thread, if you'd created them, would have been moved to the 2018 Archive folder for 2018 or to the 2017 Archive folder.
Might you have bookmarked a link to either thread on your browser bar?

However, if you want to know which books you read for your 2017 or 2018 personal reading challenge, that's quite easy.
Go to your profile and look at the section about your friends' list.
Click on "Your 2018 Year in Books" to display the bookcovers and ratings of every book you read that year.

message 20: by Kate (new)

Kate Hello! I've only done one reading challenge and that was the Summer Reading Challenge (beginner). I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm looking for something similar. Something that will allow me to stretch myself a bit re different books/genres, but also allow me to whittle down my Want To Read list and continue various series. Is this a good group for those goals?

message 21: by oshizu (last edited Nov 13, 2019 07:25PM) (new)

oshizu | 5762 comments @Kate
This group offers a wide selection of challenges that seem to meet your various reading goals very well:

*2020 will introduce various challenges that last either a year, a quarter, or a month, many with prompts that will ask you to read outside of your usual genres.

*To help streamline your To-Read lists, you could join either the yearlong Clear the Shelves or TBR Jar challenges. Or both, even.

*Use the yearly Serial Reader challenge to track the series you start, finish, or continue.

Best wishes and happy reading.

message 22: by Kate (new)

Kate @oshizu, thanks! And, wow! I checked out the links and those are very clever challenges. I like it. :-) It really does meet my goals and then some. Count me in for 2020! And, thanks again.

I'm glad you're feeling so enthusiastic about reading more in 2020.
That's what the reading challenges are all about, encouraging us to enjoy reading more.

@Fairlee
The Serial Reader Challenge is one of this group's most popular challenges and will be returning in 2020.

As for Calendar of Crime, please note that it's an unofficial challenge (not one of the group's 15 official yearly challenges), so I'm putting my reply under spoiler tags.

Welcome Kara. There are lots of great monthly, quarterly and yearly challenges in this group. I found that I read things I wouldn't have chosen previously and it has opened up a whole new world of diverse books. Good luck and enjoy!

Anneke (herzballon) I’ve found this group some weeks ago and was hoping for a fresh start in 2020 so I can join. Now I’m looking forward to it.

message 31: by TriciaDea_Reads (new)

TriciaDea_Reads (l_and_c_mom) | 56 comments I took 2019 off from challenges as I was too overwhelmed and caught myself worried more about the challenge than actually enjoying books. I'm looking forward to trying again, but this time I'm going to focus more on the enjoyment - and if I meet the challenge by the end of the year.. Great! If not, at least I'll be able to say I read some good books along the way. I can't wait to see what challenges 2020 has in store. :-)

I’m hoping this group will encourage me to continue onwards if I ever find myself in a reading slump.

@Maureen
If you click on the 2020 Yearly Challenges folder (only the top 5-6 will be displayed unless you click on the folder), you'll see that the A-Z challenge is already available. :D
