Announcements
-- As you might have noticed, the name of the group has changed to 2019 & 2020 Reading Challenge, which means we are officially getting ready for the new year! Please find here what to expect in 2020, and feel free to ask any questions you might have.
-- For the past three years we have had great yearly themes: “Around the World,” “Reading Through Time,” and “Books to Stage & Screen.” Now, we would like you to vote for another great one for 2020! Please choose your favourite theme and vote here. The poll will close on November 10 and you may change your vote up until then if your top choice looks like it will not win.
-- One of our most beloved group activities is back! Once a year we organise Secret Santa and members from all over the world gift each other a book. You can now sign up to join this activity!

Tip from the Mods
Do you already feel like organising your member corner or personal challenge thread to get ready for 2020? You can use your 2019 threads for the time being! In December, just ask one of the moderators to move your entire thread to the correct 2020 folder or create new threads then copy and paste the posts to them yourself.

Group Read
Every month, our group votes on and reads a book together. You don't have to read the book, but we would love it if you did!
Our November theme is Veterans and our group read for this month is Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, a historical fiction novel nominated by Ann. Feel free to join the discussions or post your review of the book!
You can also vote for our December book with the theme of Closing Credits as well as nominate a book for January with the theme Vision!

Challenges
There are still two months left for our yearly challenges! Did you not sign up yet? Please check them out and join one or more of them. Even if you join now, you can still count all the books you have already read in 2019!

During our last quarter of 2019, we have two ongoing challenges which match the theme Books to Movies! In the first challenge, Casting Call, we will cast actors to play the characters in our books. This challenge is being led by SarahKat. The second challenge, Let’s Roll the Credits led by Blagica, is your opportunity to complete your active challenges, repeat an earlier favorite challenge, or try a challenge that you missed.

This month we have not two, but three brand-new monthly challenges for you!
Based on our monthly theme Veterans, the Veteran Authors challenge, led by Mie, offers reading prompts based on various interpretations of the word “veteran.” The second challenge Branching Out asks you to branch out and try something new, using a book you love as “trunk”. Lindsay will be the leader for this challenge.
Our bonus challenge Rock the Vote will run during the entire voting process of the Goodreads Choice awards and encourages you to read those potential winners! This challenge is led by Megan.

Do you have a great idea for a future monthly or quarterly challenge? Please let us know! Most of our challenges are created by members, and we love hearing your creative ideas.

TBR Twins
Share a book with an online friend while knocking off something from your TBR list!
You can sign up for December TBR Twins here, and we'll pair you with someone to read a book with next month. If you signed up for November, your twins are posted here. Please reach out to your twin and choose a book to read together!

Buddy Reads
Let’s read some books together! Buddy reads are a great way to read and discuss a book together with fellow group members. This month we will have a total of 16 Buddy Reads!
We are starting or continuing the following stand-alone books:
-- As I Lay Dying, Asymmetry, Emma, The Graveyard Book, A Little Life, The Lost Girls, The Secret Keeper, and Washington Black.

We will also start reading the following series:
-- Mistborn #1: The Final Empire and Ya-Yas #1: Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood.

And continue with:
-- Discworld #2: The Light Fantastic, Little House #4: On the Banks of Plum Creek, Mistborn #3.5: Secret History, Percy Jackson #5: The Last Olympian, Poirot #11: Three-Act Tragedy, and A Song of Ice and Fire #4: A Dance with Dragons.

If you would like to join any, please follow the link and let your buddies know you will be joining the read!

Would you like to suggest a future Buddy Read or join an existing one? You can sign up on our current 2019 Buddy Reads - Sign Up thread.

Finally, welcome to all of our new members! We can't wait to get to know you. Please stop in and introduce yourself or say hello to our new members!

Happy reading, everyone!

Kara, Winter, Ilona, Kristin, Rachael, Blagica, Megan, and oshizu
