If anyone says that sexism doesn't exist anymore, I am going to give them this book.
This book is taking me a longtime to get through and that is because it hits so close to home for women. She talks about not being able to walk down the street by herself or with a group of women without being catcalled. And when she responds in the way the men don't like they use derogatory words. She shares her frustration that the only thing she can do is stop going on walks. It isn't fair. It isn't her fault. She talks about the guy that went around shooting women because no one would sleep with him. He felt it was all women's' fault, because no one wanted to be with him. So it is okay to kill them. She talks about domestic violence and the women that try to escape their significant others and get killed because of it.
And lastly, she (and women in general) deal with all these issues and problems and a nice man sitting next to her offers her part of his veggies and the first thing she does is wonder why. Is he going to poison me? What will he do if I say no? What is his reasoning behind this? etc... She had all these different thoughts and scenarios go through her head. When all the man wanted to do was be kind.
Men ruin it for other men. Men ruin it for themselves.
