Trike | 11206 comments Here's a trailer for the adaptation of Robert Heinlein's short story "All You Zombies", which is one of the greatest and weirdest time travel stories.

Predestination

Starring Ethan Hawke, adapted by the Spierig brothers, who did the really interesting sci-fi vampire movie Daybreakers.

It looks really good and has decent reviews from people who've seen in Australia, but for some reason it doesn't have a distributor for North America or Europe.

Louie (rmutt1914) | 885 comments Apparently it has a distributor, because it's coming out in the US tomorrow (JAN 9). I am kind of surprised I hadn't heard about this before today (totally missed this post).

Only heard about it because I just saw this trailer on The Equalizer DVD.

Trike | 11206 comments I forgot I posted this. It must be in limited release, because I don't see it playing anywhere near me, not even in Boston.

Oh well, it'll be out on video soon enough.

Linnea (robotmaria) | 67 comments I worked at a film festival in Sweden some months ago and got to see the movie then. I gave it 3,5 out of 5. It's a very solid time travel story with good acting. I don't remember it impressing me visually, but story-wise it was very fascinating. I haven't read the original story though, so not sure how faithful it is.

Joanna Chaplin | 1175 comments If you liked "All You Zombies", check out The Man Who Folded Himself, which takes the idea to its illogical extreme.

Daniel K | 164 comments Wathced this movie and was actually pretty impressed by it. It looked like a low-budged film, but what an atmosphere it created. Huge thumbs-up to Sarah Snook's acting. Ethan Hawke was also good, his role just wasn't so extraordinary.

People who await action-packed story could be disappointed. But to those who like intense movies and to feel intrigued to the very end this could become a gem.

Stylistically it somewhat similar to The Adjustment Bureau with Matt Damon and Emily Blunt, but less open-spaced. Most of the scenes take place inside some industrial buildings, basements, bars.

The story starts as a person walks in a bar and reluctantly starts to tell a story to the bartender. You'll never know how it would end but you'd fell more and more amazed with every step this story takes until explosive final.

Trike | 11206 comments I just watched it and I think it's terrific. The acting is superb by both Snook and Hawke. The writing and direction are top-notch.

"All You Zombies" is one of those stories that always felt completely unadaptable to me, so hats off to the Spierig brothers for managing to not only make it kinetic but also maintain the core of the tale while opening it up.

Tamahome | 7223 comments Richard Dreyfuss did a good audiodrama version of "By His Bootstraps" for Harlan Ellison's 2000X years ago, another Heinlein time travel story. Maybe you can get it on cassette. :)
