Happy (worldhasteeth) | 173 comments I wanted to use Nightmare Magazine, October 2014: Women Destroy Horror! Special Issue as one of my choices, but someone suggested that magazines might not be accepted. Just to clarify, this is not the sort of glossy thing found in a doctor's waiting room, with more advertisements and photos than actual content. It's an anthology of short fiction, along with some interviews with the authors, a few pieces of artwork (perhaps 5 or 6, if I remember correctly?). It's certainly comparable to any anthology that is called by the name of "book" in quality and content.

I've requested that it be verified for length, since it's an online only publication, but I wanted to check that it was okay to submit a periodical for the SRC.

Magazines do not work for SRC tasks

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3041 comments I have a question, I am reading Cat & Mouse by James Patterson. The most popular edition is an abridged audio CD saying it's 480 pages.

I am reading the hardcover that has 383 pages. The closest I can find it the hardcover with 399. So I wanted to know what edition to go by since the most popular edition Goodreads shows is the abridged audio book. if you go with the audio book do I have to get it verified? I am using the book for task 15.9.

You would never use an audiobook for page count - the only time you don't use the edition you actually read is if you are reading an ebook or an audiobook. If the edition you are reading is not on GR, based on the ISBN, you can ask a librarian to add it for you.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3041 comments The edition I have it on as currently reading matches the ISBN number of the book I have. So should I just use the edition I am reading for the task instead of going with the most popular edition which is the audio book.

yes, you should always use the edition you are actually reading, unless it's a page number issue and you are reading an ebook or listening to an audiobook.

Happy (worldhasteeth) | 173 comments I always read books on Kindle, and when I went to check the page number on mass market paperback, the only edition was in French, not a language I read. Should I use this edition for page numbering purposes, or the first English language edition that qualifies?

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3041 comments Ok thanks Sandy.

The French edition is fine

Please start here - Welcome Newcomers. That should get you started.

Teri-K I'd appreciate a clarification on the GRA rule. If a book has more than one author, is a GRA ticket awarded as long as at least one of the authors is a GRA? They don't have to all be, correct?

Thanks.

Pat (peakles) | 145 comments Can I get Clark's Story by Diane Adams approved? It is only available in ebook format. Using for task 30.9 option 5.

message 116: by Trish (last edited Feb 06, 2015 01:35AM) (new)

Trish (trishhartuk) | 3680 comments I just wanted a quick clarification. I'm wondering about reading The Once and Future King. As a combination of all TH White's Arthur books, it doesn't show Children's as a genre. However, one of its components, the The Sword In The Stone, does in its separate book listing, and seems to be the only TH White in the AR list (IL: MY - BL: 7.5 - AR Pts: 16.0). Would the combination as a whole therefore need the AR data? And could it be used for anything other than a 5pt task.

Pat, your question should be asked in e-book verification thread.

There is AR BookFinder data for that book
Try this edition isbn The Once and Future King UG - BL: 7.4 - AR Pts: 41.0
If the genre does appear you are covered, just include the info above.
You should avoid planning it for a task that specifies "no childrens" in case the genre does appear

If you plan to read the entire book, you go by what's listed for that book. If you're trying to read the component parts as separate books, then you need to use what's there for separate books. At any rate, the numbers you've listed work regardless of the children's data.

And there's nothing special about 5 point tasks. If the book you're trying to read has the genre children but meets the AR Bookfinder criteria, you can use it for any task that doesn't totally exclude the use of books with the children's genre.

Teri-K For those of us writing 30 point tasks, when and where do we submit them for checking? I know I want to wait until the 5-15 point tasks are released so I can check that I haven't duplicated any of them too closely, but what will I do with my task description after that?

I know with the Winter Tasks they send out a PM with guidelines for the task, and you reply to that.

I'll send out messages to finishers next week- probably mid to late in the week.

message 124: by Teri-K (new)

Teri-K Awesome. Thanks for both the replies. It's good to know I can just sit back and wait. :)

This challenge is so well organized. I'm really impressed. I think you guys could organize the invasion of another planet and not miss a thing. If that ever comes up I'll keep you all in mind... lol

They tell me I need to get verification on this book. They don't feel there is enough orange (over 50%) on the cover. I think it meets the requirement. Please let me know if I can use it for task #30.7 Option #1

Thank you.

is it possible to switch a book to another task when you already have claimed the points?

From the rules:

"3. It's fine to change your mind about which books you plan to use for which task at any point...just explain in your post if you have already claimed points for a task and are moving that book to another task. All posts to move books must be complete with all required information."
