15.2 - Roman Numerals
Roman numerals are based on seven symbols I, C, D, L, M, V, X

Read TWO books whose titles and/or subtitles together contain ALL 7 symbols/letters
ex. The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax I, C, D, L, M, X
Vermilion Drift V

Mexican Hat I, C, M, X
The Invisible Bridge L, D, V

Letters may appear more than once. All letters may appear in one book title, but you still need to read two books: the 2nd book must contain at least one Roman numeral letter

Required: Identify the letters that are found in the titles as shown in the examples

Tara | 391 comments Confirmation on Title/Subtitle here....
Texas Secrets: The Gallaghers of Morning Star...

Is "The Gallaghers..." considered a subtitle here? Looks like the Series is Texas Heroes, so wanted to confirm I had this correct that the other is a subtitle and can be used in finding the letters.

I'm not sure if I have "Texas Secrets: The Gallaghers of Morning Star" to work with, or only "The Gallaghers of Morning Star".

Thanks in advance.

That really looks like it should be a series title, but we go with the GR record. Since it appears that way now, I'll note that the subtitle works

♞ Pat Gent | 786 comments Got a pair to share …

I, C, D, L, M, V, X
She Flew the Coop: A Novel Concerning Life, Death, Sex and Recipes in Limoges, Louisiana
and

I, M, V
Fat Vampire

I may change my second book, but right now it looks like a fun and whacky read!

Lindy-Lane (moonbacklit) | 567 comments Jane and His Lordship's Legacy (Jane Austen Mysteries, #8) by Stephanie Barron

wondering about this one. on the cover the title appears to be "being a jane austen mystery: jane and his lordship's legacy" would the "m" from mystery work as one of the roman numerals?

We use titles as they appear on GR. There is no M in the title.
If you think a title/subtitle needs correction you could ask a librarian in General Help

Jenifer (jensamaha) | 355 comments I believe that I've found a book with all the letters: The Revenant of Thraxton Hall: The Paranormal Casebooks of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

So, now I will just need to add a second book with at least one of the letters since there isn't a one book option, correct?

Melissa (melissaboedigheimer) I would like to see if Christmas at Rose Hill Farm: An Amish Love Story would work -- specifically "An Amish..." as the subtitle.

Thanks!

You can use the subtitle

message 16: by Cheri (new)

Cheri (jovali2) One to share -- a title/subtitle with all seven letters in it: A Jane Austen Education: How Six Novels Taught Me About Love, Friendship, and the Things That Really Matter by William Deresiewicz. I do understand that another book with at least one of these letters must also be read.

Vicki Willis | 166 comments Can you approve Sex, Marry, Kill for length? My edition says 252 pages. I thought there were some page parameters, but I can't find it in the rules.

There is a paperback so you don't need to get it verified

message 23: by Pia (new)

Pia I just realized the roman numerals have to be in title-subtitle...
I already had the books selected, but with authors. Shoot!

Pia, I did the same thing with one of the 30 point tasks - found the books only to realize that they also needed to be certain numbers in the series. :)

message 25: by Pia (new)

Pia Just moved everything around and I think I found the books I need for this task.
I just felt so dumb!

I know I would still need to read a second book with at least one.

Andy Plonka (plonkaac) | 4207 comments The book, The Speckled Monster by Jennifer Lee Carrell has the subtitle "a Historical Tale of Battling Smallpox". So, would that book combined with Voices by Arnaldur Indriðason work for this task? First book, has CDLMX, second VIC. My problem is the subtitle does not appear in the title part on the Good Reads home page and that is where the X is

It must appear on the GR record, but you can have the subtitle added by a GR librarian
