just explain in your post that this is something you wanted to learn more about. This task is pretty open, as long as the book is nonfiction and you want to learn more about its subject.

This book relates the development of the largest privately owned department store in Jacksonville, Florida which is my hometown. This store no longer exists and I have such pleasant memories of it (going to see Santa, etc.) I want to know more about its history in Jacksonville. I majored in History in college and taught social studies courses for 35 years so this is my type of book. May I get approval for this book?

you don't need pre-approval - the task simply requires a non fiction book that will tell you more about something you want to know more about it. No justification needed, beyond wanting to know more about whatever the subject of the book is!

no, the task doesn't require nonfiction to be listed as a main page genre. In this case, it's pretty clear that it's nonfiction!

I want to use My Drunk Kitchen: A Guide to Eating, Drinking, and Going with Your Gut, because I want to learn to be a better cook and be more adaptive in the kitchen. I just want to make sure that this book will work for the SRC in general, since it's a cookbook, and there are therefore a fair amount of pictures. There's a good amount of text as well, so I think it will, but I'd rather make sure.
(Below I linked to the Amazon page so you can look inside and see what you think.)

Looks like there's a substantial written component. If there are at least 100 pages worth of text, it will work.

Sounds fair. Thanks. :)

Firstly, it is labeled as a graphic novel, 174 pages. It seems to have a picture only every few pages. I would definitely say it is >100 pages of actual text, so I think that is OK for page requirements?
Secondly, even though it is a humorous book, I think I actually will learn a bit about cat behaviour.
Does this sound OK?
