Diane | 2 comments Hi. I read a book in the early 90's and one of the characters in the book was named "cushie". I nick named one of my daughters that when she was little and I told her I picked the name from a book that I was reading but I cannot recall the name of the book or anything else about the story. I am trying to put together her senior video.
Thank you. I know it's a stretch but I would be so ever grateful:)

Diane | 2 comments Thank you for your quick response:) This does not ring a bell, but I will go the the bookstore and flip through it to see if anything sounds familiar.

I typically read books that are inspirational, family-oriented or if I saw it mentioned on a tv show or something. It is bothering me so much that I can't even remember the story line!

Again thank you. I don't think this is a book I would have read but I will double check and if it is I will move this post to solved.

Swords and Crowns and Rings by Ruth Park?

Swords and Crowns and Rings is the enchanting story of Jackie Hanna, a dwarf, and Cushie Moy, whose friendship as children matures into a love that survives hardship, misunderstanding and a social chasm that would separate lesser mortals. They spend their childhood in an unremarkable Australian country town before World War I, where Jackie grows up believing that he can do and be anything. His step-father, Jerry Hanna, is the rock on which this solid family life is based; Peggy Hanna is his indefatigable mother. Together they keep a grocer’s shop, not smart enough for the Moys, who patronise the Hannas and express alarm that Dorothy (Cushie) might learn ‘common expressions’.

And another Australian, Christina Stead, wrote Dark Places of the Heart (American title), which has a character named Cushie. In Britain it was published as Cotters England.

Diane hasn't been active in GR since her last post. I sent her a PM with link. If she doesn't answer in a timely manner, the next MOd to read this thread can move it down to Abandoned.
