Jim | 21812 comments I'm about half way through The Noble Revolt: The Overthrow of Charles I. I picked it up 'very reasonable' in a Canterbury charity bookshop when we were on holiday and I've finally got round to tackling it. It's a chunky hardback, ignoring footnotes it's still over 500 pages.

Frankly it's fascinating. Well written, carefully explained and a masterly grasp of the topic, the author manages to explain a complex period well.

(On Amazon you can pick up a copy for less than £3 which has to be a good deal)

Jim | 21812 comments A real doorstop of a book, you'll get your money's worth out of the postage alone :-)
Thick enough to stop a musket ball at twenty yards!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh, he'd get the ebook.

He's reading Afghanistan war books at the moment. Don't know the titles but he said he read a couple by different authors over the weekend. Said it was interesting to compare the points of view.

Jim | 21812 comments According to Amazon there isn't an ebook.
And the hardback is a quarter the price of the paperback!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments No ebook?

Then it's not worth even considering, is it?

Jim | 21812 comments Dunno, a lot of the books I buy don't have an ebook

Ran the Canterbury half marathon once, with an elephant (real one!) in the team. Couldn't believe how many hills there were - I'd been through Canterbury lots of times and always of it as flat!!

Jim | 21812 comments That's the problem with elephants, the ground sags around them and you're always running uphill trying to get out

L.A. Kent | 3925 comments lol, so that was the problem!

I have just started killers of the King and enjoying it, although not very far in yet as I started a very good novel at the same time, will have a look at The Noble Revolt: The Overthrow of Charles I be interesting to read both.
