Sara Huh...this may be a bit challenging. We all love good cover art. What can you find that is words only?

Sarah | 91 comments This could be a tough one. I only found three on my TBR list:

Helter Skelter The True Story of the Manson Murders by Vincent Bugliosi Beloved by Toni Morrison Finishing the Hat Collected Lyrics, 1954-1981, With Attendant Comments, Principles, Heresies, Grudges, Whines, and Anecdotes by Stephen Sondheim

And a few more I've already read, that may or may not work depending on how particular you want to get with it:

Room by Emma Donoghue The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat and Other Clinical Tales by Oliver Sacks Shame by Salman Rushdie Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

tea_for_two | 21 comments This is great for me, since I absolutely have to read Big Wonderful Thing: A History of Texas for work and was dreading figuring out how to fit a 900+ page book into next year's challenge.

Big Wonderful Thing A History of Texas by Stephen Harrigan

For people who don't want a deep dive into Texas history, here are some other options:

But What If We're Wrong? Thinking About the Present As If It Were the Past by Chuck Klosterman White Trash The 400-Year Untold History of Class in America by Nancy Isenberg Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates Crazy Rich Asians (Crazy Rich Asians, #1) by Kevin Kwan

There's also a list of text only books on Goodreads: Text-Only Covers.

Jenn (jenntendo64) | 56 comments Oh, Swing Time would be great for this for me as it’s one of the few Zadie Smith books I haven’t read yet.

I may also use Know My Name by Chanel Miller. UK cover just has black and white with text.

message 9: by Chrissi (last edited Nov 18, 2019 11:05AM) (new)

Chrissi (clewand84) | 238 comments I'm going with Factfulness Ten Reasons We're Wrong About the World – and Why Things Are Better Than You Think by Hans Rosling . Hans Rosling is amazing with presenting data in a readable format.

If you want to finally tackle A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara , this copy is only words (with a few images within the text). Depends on how strict you're being, I guess.

Ready Player One (Ready Player One, #1) by Ernest Cline Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock by Matthew Quick The Witch Doesn't Burn in This One (Women Are Some Kind of Magic, #2) by Amanda Lovelace The Mermaid's Voice Returns in This One (Women Are Some Kind of Magic, #3) by Amanda Lovelace Fascism A Warning by Madeleine K. Albright
Me Before You (Me Before You, #1) by Jojo Moyes (and many of the JoJo Moyes books have covers like this one)

message 10: by Maddy (new)

Maddy Buell | 14 comments Would Exhalation: Stories count? The words are a bit of a flourish, but there aren't any images or graphics.

This is on my TBR, but it has an infinity symbol on the cover so I personally wouldn't count it. I'm definitely hoping to fit this one in somewhere - I LOVED Dark Matter!

message 17: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Swan | 2 comments From my TBR list- Room by Emma Donoghue and The Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison

Sarah (sezziy) | 901 comments I have a few SFF books with this cover:
Hyperion (Hyperion Cantos #1) by Dan Simmons

and a few classics with this one:
The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins

so I should be able to find something

message 19: by Sara (last edited Nov 19, 2019 05:03AM) (new)

Sara Someone added this one to the listopia:

The Only Plane in the Sky An Oral History of September 11, 2001 by Garrett M. Graff

(as it's hard to see, the book is The Only Plane in the Sky: An Oral History of September 11, 2001 )

I was planning to read it very soon, but I think I'll just wait a bit longer and add it to my challenge for 2020.

message 20: by Elena (new)

Elena Johansen I went through my TBR and found a few already mentioned, plus

Insomnia by Stephen King

message 21: by Belinda (new)

Ooh I highly recommend The Strain trilogy. I really enjoyed it when I read it a few years ago.

message 24: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 263 comments @Tobey- I’m actually listening to that one now and loving it! I’ll have to see if the sequel would work for this option also.

I just borrowed the ebook of Lanny from the library, and realized its text-only, so I’m going to borrow it again to read in 2020.
Lanny by Max Porter

(I thought that white line was a tree or a sprout, but it’s nothing, not even what I would consider a graphic.)

Alternatively, I’m already planning to read W is for Wasted for “>20 books in a series,” so I could just carry on and read X X (Kinsey Millhone, #24) by Sue Grafton or Y is for Yesterday Y is for Yesterday (Kinsey Millhone, #25) by Sue Grafton or use W is for Wasted (Kinsey Millhone, #23) by Sue Grafton here. (tbh, I’m not really sure if I feel “X” counts, since the X looks like a steel structure, not mere text. But Y counts!)

Although some have digits as well, so those won't count unless you can find alternate covers, of course! :) I just read a number of them before tiring of certain aspects of it although some of them are VERY FUNNY.

message 45: by Darci (new)

Darci Day | 164 comments A lot of non-fiction will work for this. I'm going with Enough Said What's Gone Wrong with the Language of Politics? by Mark John Thompson .

For fiction, some ideas:
Ducks, Newburyport by Lucy Ellmann Severance by Ling Ma

Or, if someone wants to do poetry, all of Amanda Lovelace's books are words only, like: The Princess Saves Herself in This One (Women Are Some Kind of Magic, #1) by Amanda Lovelace

There's also:
The Book of Joshua by Zachary Schomburg
