I started Chapter 3 …
IMO, this one seems a little slow at the beginning , unlike the previous ones … But - let's see what it has in store for us …

Chapter 11 - we still don't know why he didn't come back for her for 20 years ?!

I haven't gotten very far yet. She just woke him up from his nightmare. I can only listen to a little bit a day now that I actually work :(

Ohhh you are working !!! :) and :( at the same time. Are you happy to be out of the house and away from kids for a bit , or are you even more tired ? At some point during my second mat leave I couldn’t wait to go back to work - and once i went back , about 2 months in i was like “omg, fuck this, i’d rather be home with the kids than waking up at dawn, commuting to work, and dealing with these people here !!” But since we kinda need the money - i gotta work :)))))))))))))

i can often listen to audiobooks at my work though (office where everyone listens to music at their desks, so they just assume that my headphones play music as well , lolll)

After 11 years of being a SAHM I am now working 🙂
My husband PCSd to Germany while the kids and I bought a house here in Missouri. We moved from Texas to Missouri in June. My husband hit his 20 year mark and started his retirement paperwork. Hopefully he'll be able to retire then join us here sometime next year.

Meanwhile I decided to start working again when this job kind of fell in my lap. Kids are old enough and in school so there's no reason for me to stay home. Plus I love my job and my coworkers and that extra spending $$ is nice.

Unfortunately I can only listen to my audiobooks on the drive to and from work and on weekends. I can't go thru books like I used to when at home all day. I miss my books ☹

I'm at the part where she's about to get married to that old guy. I wonder what happened that day her brother and Ash left. I thought Ash was gonna kill him. Guess he didn't succeed.

I just passed the part where he made her sign the marriage license. He is now getting ready for his bath. I'll listen to a little bit more in the morning on the way to work.

I have never been a fan of the amnesia trope. I'm too impatient for the character to just remember everything! And so that part of the story I'm not big on. If he all of a sudden gets his memory back I'm gonna call bullshit. It's been 20 years! If his memory was gonna return it would have already happened by now I'd think

Ok im a bit furher in , so i wont spoil anything but - no - not a fan of amnesia either. I wished he would just tell her where he was for 20 years and explain that !! I don’t really even care about his first 18 years that he cannot remember - i mean, he was one of the convicts in Newgate prison (as all the heroes in this series are ....) so im sure there is a story there , but.....

Totally didn’t think he would stab her brother in front of her , though.... As much as the idiot deserved it..... So far im finding it hard to imagine Ash (Rook) and Lorelei together ..... they don’t seem to fit... yet...

Is it me or is this one not as great as previous ones?

This is definitely my least fave of the series. But I am still liking it for the most part.

How far along ?

Okay. Sorry for the delay. It's been a crazy few dagus's for me. I didn't get as much read as I wanted. I'm only where he just meets up with Dorian (from book #1).

The second half is much better than the first half

Yes ! I liked the second half better ..... first kinda dragged for me .
Realistically I wouldn’t have guessed that “Ash” was Dorian - even though now i remember “Dorian” in the first book saying that this was not his name but that he took the name of his “dead brother”.... but i totally didn’t put two and two together that THIS is the (presumed) dead brother...

I think that twist would have packed more of a punch if the first book wasn't so long ago. I vaguely remember bthr details of that book.

Yes, I'm done. Settled on 3.5 stars rounded up to 4. Definitely my least favorite of the series. There was too much time between book 1 and this one so the twist wasn't as impactful as it could have been. I call bullshit that he gained his memories back after all that time.

But I did enjoy the second half much more than the first. That ending with Moncrieff was a little lame. Not sure why he went so far off script. I know his book is coming up so hopefully by the time it's published I'll remember most of this book. Since he was a big part in the story

Yes , same here - least favorite so far. The memories coming back was like 'ugghh - really????' Although still a good book ! I guess maybe we'd have liked it better if so much time didn't pass between the first book and this one ...

I was gonna read this one next - first in the series - ... You want and have time ? :D
