Kate S | 6459 comments Read an author's debut book or most recently published book as of December 1, 2019.

Please post questions or recommendations for task 10.5 in this thread.

Mary | 1402 comments Are there two options here?

EITHER

An author’s first book regardless of when it was published. For example The Intuitionist by Colson Whitehead

OR

Any book published after 1 Dec 2019 assuming there is not a more recently published book by that author

Kate S | 6459 comments There are two options here.

1. An author's debut novel book, regardless of publication date OR
2. An author's most recent novel book prior to the start of the winter challenge (before 1 December 2019).

Edited to use the word book (as this task does) instead of novel.

Mary | 1402 comments Thanks for clarifying. I was having a hard time getting my head around this!

Kathleen (itpdx) (itpdx) | 1722 comments The task says book, so I am assuming that it is not only novels.

Yes, books, the task is not restricted to novels.

Joanna (walker) | 2293 comments I'm looking at Enchanted by Alethea Kontis. It looks like she previously published illustrated children's books, but this seems to be the first novel. Does that work?

Rebekah (bekalynn) would Love-Letters Between a Nobleman and His Sister by Aphra Behn be considered for this task since her previous works had been plays?

Sorry for the delay in answering these. The task calls for debut book and not debut novel. These previously published works prevent the novels from being the author's debut and won't work for this task.

Rebekah (bekalynn) I can’t tell if Fever Dream works for this. One site says ‘her first book”, then another shows she wrote a book in 2002. Then it appears the English title is not the same as the Spanish title so I’m not even sure if it is her latest.

No that is not her debut nor most recently published.

Rebekah (bekalynn) Just curious if we have a list of debut books?

No, we don't. Every author has one, though.

And they all have a most recent book! (Smile)

Mary | 1402 comments Could a posthumous collection of letters qualify for this task

Darling Monster: The Letters of Lady Diana Cooper to her Son John Julius Norwich 1939-1952 by Lady Diana Cooper

Thanks

No, a posthumous publication won't work here.
