Ilona | 4698 comments It's time to set your 2020 goal!

How many books are you going to challenge yourself to read? Create your own discussion topic and tell us what your goal is. Then, throughout the year, track your progress.

How to create your discussion topic for your challenge:
- Choose how many books you would like to read
- Go to the appropriate folder:

1-25 books
26-50 books
51-75 books
76-100 books
101-200 books
200+ books

- Click "new topic" near the top of the page

- In the "topic" box, write the name of your topic. We encourage you to come up with an original title, but it should have both your name and the number of books you plan to read.
- In the comment box, write your first post, and click “post”
- Bookmark the topic in your browser!

And you're all set! Post here if you have any questions.

Good luck to all!

Judith | 18 comments I have tried to set my reading challenge but it says I must confirm my email. I did not receive an email asking me to do so. Help!

Hi Judith, you could try the following:
To verify your email address, click on your profile picture and select Account Settings. Then navigate to your Settings tab. If your email address isn't verified, you'll see a red message next to it - click "re-send verification email" and follow the instructions in the email you receive.

If this doesn't solve the problem or if you don't see the the "re-send verification email" option, I suggest that you contact Goodreads by sending an email to [email protected]

Marjorie Hedinger | 3 comments Good morning,
I am having difficulty setting up my 2020 challenge. I cannot get into the appropriate folder to set up my challenge. Please advise..

Thank you,Marjorie

message 5: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments Marjorie, what is preventing you from getting into the appropriate folder?

message 6: by Ilona (new)

Ilona | 4698 comments Marjorie, are you by any chance using the app?

message 7: by Marjorie (new)

Marjorie Hedinger | 3 comments I cannot get to to the folder. When I click on 26-50 I get an “unable to load content” message. I am using an iPad.

message 8: by Marjorie (new)

Marjorie Hedinger | 3 comments Yes I am using the app.

message 9: by Charlea (new)

Charlea | 5 comments Im really confused, have added a personal challenge, but does anyone want to advise me on how the members corner works! It just leads me to the first page for the group.

message 10: by Milly (new)

Milly (purpleglitterypinecone) There is no option for a new topic

message 11: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments Amelia, if you're using the app, try swiping sideways after you click on the link that is appropriate for your goal :-) you should see the rest of the columns and the option for new topic then :-)

message 12: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments PluviophilePineapple, I'm not sure what you mean. If you're on the app. Scroll down when you're on the group home page and you should be able to see the discussion board. you can then click "see All discussions" , and from there scroll down to the "2020 members corners"

Hope this helped :-)

Marjorie, links do not tend to work in the app. I would advice you to try it again using the browser on your ipad or pc.

message 15: by Milly (new)

Milly (purpleglitterypinecone) I’m not using the app. I was using the site, but there is no option for a new topic

It might help to (re-)verify your email address: (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...). If that doesn't help, I would suggest contacting Goodreads at [email protected]

Kim | 21 comments Hope to add a challenge here...I'll start with 75-100 but if I go over like I did this year I guess I'll just continue with the same thread, unless someone has another suggestion?

You can just continue in the same thread and ask one of us mods to move your thread to another folder if you want to, but its also fine to stay in the same one. The topics are grouped by reading goal, not necessarily by the actual amount of books read. :)

Jennifer Iantorno | 3 comments Does anyone know when the Goodreads challenge for 2020 will be ready?

Yes, that is correct, January 1st .

Ilona | 4698 comments Rick wrote: "I’m gearing up for the 2020 Challenge. Should I target 20 books or 30 books?."

That is entirely up to you Rick. Do you want a safe goal that you can easily reach? Go for 20. Do you want a more challenging year? Set your target to 30. :) Feel free to change your goal during the year, if the number chosen ends up being too low or too high.

Ilona | 4698 comments Brianna wrote: "how do i set my 2020 personal challenge? I'm using the app"

As links usually do not work in the app, you can go to the group home page and navigate from there to the right folder. Once you click on the folder you should see the option to create a new topic.

Fallan (msyvettereads) | 1 comments Aiming for 52 books for 2019 was a challenge but I completed it. It was an off year for me. In previous years I would read twice that amount and 52 books would've been a breeze. Now I'm struggling on a safe goal for 2020. Perhaps I should aim for an even 60 books to push me further out of this reading slump. Decisions, decisions.

That is a decision that only you can make, Fallan! Just remember, you can always adjust goal during the year :)

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments Rebecca wrote: "Interesting question: If you started a book in 2019 but finish it in 2020, does it count?"

Absolutely! I personally count my books from whenever I finish reading them (or in worst case scenario: DNF), not from when I start them :)
You should do whatever makes sense for you, Rebecca :)

Brea Black I can't for the life of me remember how to go back in and add to my first post. Total brain fart here. On the bright side I've finished two books for this year already!!

That is great :) (the books not the brain fart)

Here is a link your personal challenge: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/....
If you are on the website, there should be an edit button in the right bottom corner of your first post.

jude (inscriptoriums) | 46 comments hi! i set my challenge to 52 books this year and am currently planning to post a topic in the appropriate folder. however, it seems this year might be going well for me and, while it's not yet final, i might double it up to about a hundred books if i keep up this pace later on in the year. can topics be moved here like in forum sites and can i just ping a mod later on if i do decide to change? i don't want to suddenly screw up the group's categorisation due to my indecision lmao.

thanks in advance! xx

Hi Jude, we mods can indeed move a topic to another folder :) Just post here or send one of us a message if you would like us to move something!

Jamie Johnson | 11 comments My 2020 reading goal is 24 books. I'm in awe of people who have a goal of 100 books! Heck, even 50 books is amazing. With my busy life, 24 is a good challenge. Last year my goal was 12 (about 1 a month is what I hoped to average.) I read 20 books! I'm pushing to do 2 books a month.

message 45: by gabu (new)

gabu (gabugabriela) Hello, I'm Gabriela and I'm aiming for 30 books this year.

I'm on a break from college now, but the second semester starts in March and I think it will be really hard for me to keep up the pace.

Either way, I hope I can reach my goal!

Sakshi, if you go to the official Goodreads reading challenge page (https://www.goodreads.com/challenges/...), there is a small Edit button next to the sentence "You have read xx out of xx books". This will allow you to change your goal for 2020. Hope this helps!

message 50: by Liam (new)

Liam (shadowteck) | 5 comments Hey, I'm Liam and my goal is 20 books this year. I have about 50 on my list to read but since I'm starting late and some of them are hard books I'm just going to make it a little easier to start with. If I do good then I'll bump up the number of books on my list.
