Kate I've missed a lot of this month and the lead up to Christmas will be busy so I won't get much reading in but I'd like to concentrate on the days between Christmas and New Year as I should devote some time over that period to reading. I'm also keen to finish a number of reading challenges and reach my 52 book target for 2019. So I'll pick this up from Boxing Day if that's ok:

26 Dec: Little Grey Rabbit: Little Grey Rabbit's Christmas 46 pages Twelve Days of Christmas 31 pages
27 Dec: Twelve Days of Christmas 15 pages
28 Dec: Twelve Days of Christmas 118 pages
29 Dec: Twelve Days of Christmas 164 pages Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets 52 pages

31 Dec: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets 91 pages

Karen (karinlib) | 2108 comments Hi Everyone, I'm back from my trip. I thought I would never have the opportunity to see Hawaii, so when a friend of mine invited me to join her, I jumped at the chance. Now, I am looking at books on Hawaii, and reading a few.

How's everyone doing? I only read 1/3 of a book while I was away (and that was on the plane). I'm with Kate, I am going to ramp up my reading between Christmas and New Year's Eve.

I hope you had an amazing time, Karen!
My reading has been on and off, but I don't feel bad about it.
I'm currently trying to make my way through some of the Debbie Macomber classics. To shift gears I switched to Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter. My first book by her. We'll see how it goes.

Karen, I would recommend Karin Slaughter, if you can handle dark material. I don't want to put a bunch of trigger warnings on it, but a lot of people did. I'm also told that's just her writing style.
My review of Pretty Girls doesn't do it justice because I was trying not to to spoil anything.

And I would love to continue monthly read-a-thons. I really like this was a way to keep track of my reading.

Karen (karinlib) | 2108 comments I look forward to the last week of the year, I actually have time to do some reading.

I am trying to finish up a book that I know if I switch on and off to another book, I won't finish. So my whole reading right now is focused on one book (I normally read multiple books at a time). I am being somewhat successful.

Do you find that the few days before the new year is a good time to read, or are you still in holiday preparations?

message 25: by Leticia (last edited Dec 29, 2019 06:34AM) (new)

Leticia (leticiatoraci) I know what you mean by reading too many books at the same time. I have three started Audiobooks that are actually anthologies, I seem to not being able to read a whole anthology without reading another longer book at the same time. I also have a huge book with more than 800 pages that has been dragging for a couple of months.

I had a relatively calm time now around Christmas, since I refused to be swept up in too much family stress with my in-laws, so I was reading and finishing two books. It helps that the DVD player of my computer is broken and I can't watch DVDs Lol. With this all I also started learning knitting...
I will soon get a new computer and go on reading, watching DVDs and hopefully knitting too.

message 26: by Leane (new)

Leane I love this time of year, after Christmas but before the new year. I took Thurs and Fri off from work so I could have a nice long weekend. I did some cleaning, organizing and setting myself up for the new year: got my new planner ready and purged some books (gave to a friend) and also binge watched some Duck Dynasty. (Not something I normally watch but it was comical and helped me during the dragging parts of cleaning!
I also finished up Call Me Mrs. Miracle (Angelic Intervention #8) by Debbie Macomber , which was a nice way to wrap up the holidays.

message 27: by Karen (new)

Karen (karinlib) | 2108 comments Leticia, I'm a beginning knitter too, and it is so relaxing. Good for you to step back a little during the holidays,

Leane, I like Debbie Macomber, I really need to read more by her (thank you for reminding me).

Have you thought about any reading goals for the new year, or do you prefer just reading whatever you feel like?

I like her as well. You can always count on a "feel good" story.
I've been trying to alternate between her, a thriller and another random book.
I do like reading multiple books at a time. Usually an audio for work, a ebook for when I'm out and a physical book at home.

For 2020 I'm thinking I'm setting a goal of 52 books.
I want to try to focus less an audio books, which I relied on a lot this year.

How about you?

message 29: by Karen (new)

Karen (karinlib) | 2108 comments I'm starting to think about the challenges for next year. I've been reading around the world for the past five years, so I know I will always be looking for the next book to read.

I am in the Around the World in 80 books group, and the moderator sets up many challenges which I enjoy being a part of, for example a Translation challenge: to read books originally written in another language from our own. I would like to do that again next year.

In another group, there is a chunky book challenge: to read books 500 pages or more, that I participate in each year.

I have to be careful to not overextend myself.
